Bio Photo Honoring those who have gone before us enriches the lives of those who remain.

My goal is to be able to fill in some of the many gaps in the database as well as to help others find their departed loved one's final resting place.

Being a photo volunteer is a role that I do not take lightly. I have spent many hours searching through cemeteries and delight when I locate a marker for which a request has been made. Many times I have to search an entire cemetery because no one is available to help or, in some cases, the cemetery management refuses to assist. On the other hand, I have met many wonderful folks who share my enthusiasm and freely help to locate gravesites.

I am glad to share my photographs with those who are kind enough to ask permission. It is nice to know how my photos have helped someone else in their own family quest.

A message to everyone who requests a photo: Have patience. Do not remove the request just because you do not receive immediate results. Do not give up hope. I have had many photo requests filled long after placed. Likewise, I have filled many requests years after they were placed. Grave searching is sometimes like a treasure hunt--sometimes repeated effort is necessary to find it.

I live in central North Carolina but my parents are Virginia transplants. My mother is from Wythe County; my father is from Bland County. Both families originated in the Little Walker's Creek area.

Many of the entries that I manage were originally entered by the late Becky Sowers of Pulaski. She was instrumental in keeping many of my family connections posted on Find A Grave and I am most grateful. This gracious lady will be deeply missed by many who knew and loved her. Please visit the Find A Grave memorial for Becky Sowers and her historical site, Little Walkers Creek, Pulaski and Bland Counties, VA. A History of the Land and Its People.

My genealogical searches are for the following family names: Hamblin, Brunk, Davis, Murray, Fowler, Banes, Caddall.

My wife's genealogical searches are for the following family names: O'Neal, Willard, Cagle, Reddick.

After several years of grave hunting, I realized that I have amassed a number of photos for precious folk who have no memorial on Find a Grave. Before I purge these photos from my computer, I am entering these memorials for those I have found. Please request a transfer if you would like to maintain any of these memorials.

The cemeteries I have currently entered are: Oak Grove Baptist Church, Oakwood Municipal Cemetery, and Oakwood Memorial Park (all in High Point, NC). I am currently working on entering ones I have found at Floral Garden.

By the way, Floral Garden Memorial Park in High Point, NC, is a Find a Graver's nightmare. Read the notes about Floral Garden and be glad you do not live near a cemetery where their only goal is to make money.

RE: Sylvia Caldonia Halsy(Tickle)
Thank you for your response. I understand about missing information. I was researching my G-G-Grandfather Lelan Calloway Russell when I found a record for a marriage in 1914 in Wyth County that listed Sylvia as the spouse. And I think I had found a census record where she was living with some of her children under the last name Russell. But I have not had a chance to talk to my grandparents yet to see if they know anything about it. (they just got back today from vacation). I will try to add the link for the one record and then go back and look for the other one. If the link dose not work let me know and I will try again.

Sylvia Caldonia Halsy(Tickle)
Her number is 34216668

I am wondering if you or someone you know is related to this person. I am trying to find information on a possible marriage that she had in Wyth county. According to the record I found She married a Russell in 1914 in Wythville. I am asking because I am related to the Russell party involved but I can not find any further information on this. Thank you.

I didn't realize until just now that I had the map of that section. So the full entry should be:

Sec. 26a, lot 2, grave 210.

Zella :)
