Neva McCallen Horath Loy
Hi John and Diane,

I happened across another entry that needs corrected when you get a chance. Thanks! Neva's 2nd husband was Harry B. Loy, not "Harold William Loy." The link on her page to Harry B. shows as it should be. Harry was my grandma's first cousin. He told me his name was just "Harry" (not Harold) and the B. didn't stand for anything.

I corresponded with Neva for several years and Cousin Harry for even longer. In 1989, when they married, she wrote me telling of the marriage. (Which I'd already known.) Both are Loy descendants, with Neva having extra doses.

Neva's first husband Lovell Horath was also a Loy descendant. His cousin married my grandma's sister, so Aunt Alma's descendants are extra related to me!

Thomas Moore Loy Sr
Hey John and Diane!

Been awhile since I last spoke with you. Just noticed this entry needs some "tweaking". Back in 1980s, the "older generation" told me Thomas' middle name was Moore. Around 2000, someone emailed me they'd heard the name was "Matthew". But BLM records from 1835 for his land in Jasper Co., IL give full name as "Thomas Moore Loy". Besides, his son was Thomas Moore Loy, Jr.

His gravestone appears to be in error regarding death date. The 1868 Effingham County court records, where he died intestate, gave his death as 1 March. My hard copies are in storage, but I believe even the court proceedings began before death date given on stone. I've yet to check for a newspaper obituary for additional documentation.

Although Thomas served in Blackhawk War in 1832 as 2nd Corp under Capt. Peter Warren, he didn't serve in the Civil War. The Thomas M. Loy that served in Co. I, 71st Ill. Inf was *age 24* at his 1862 enlistment. (The IL State Archives has online roster of soldiers from this unit and their physical statistics.) This Civil War soldier Thomas M. Loy was actually Thomas S. Loy, son of Joseph C. and Rachel (Sharp) Loy. Thomas S. served in this unit along with his brother John Henry Loy (1839-1913), my grandma's grandfather. Also serving in that unit were two sons of Thomas Moore Loy, Sr: George W. and John Matthew G. Loy. Thomas Moore Loy, Jr was only 13, too young to serve. In the 1850 census, Thomas S. Loy was listed as Thomas M. Loy-- he used middle initial M in other early records, too, making me believe this was his birth name. Perhaps to simplify the confusion, he later began using middle initial S. Just my wild guess, but perhaps when Thomas S. died, the free marker the US Govt provided had the original "M" initial and it had to be redone. Rather than waste a good marker, Thomas S.'s family might have given it to Uncle Thomas Moore Loy's family, though he didn't serve. At least initials matched!

Regarding Thomas Moore Loy Sr.'s sons George W. and John M.G.--I lost trace of them after their being mentioned in their paternal grandfather's 1869 estate records. I was told that George W. Loy was buried next to Thomas and Susannah, with no dates. Also, Thomas and Susannah's youngest son Henry J. ("Harry") (b. 1864-d. after 1869 mention in paternal grandfather's estate) was also said to be buried next to Thomas and Susannah, with no dates. From what I understood, both sons' graves had small markers, so not unmarked. But I didn't see any entries for them from your Loy Cemetery postings.

Finally, an FYI. I think submitter of Thomas Moore Loy Sr photos has the wrong Thomas M. Loy. If photos were identified as a Thomas M. Loy, it's more likely Thomas Moore Loy, Jr. Cabinet cards weren't widely used in the US until the 1870s and not really that popular until the 1880s.

Updates - Thank You
Hi, Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your quick response to update requests and the fact that you provide a blurb on the source and with no source a like to the provider of the information. There have been many times when I can't find where someone got the information and all I have is an opportunity to contact the provider of the memorial. Just like with you a lot of them just donate their time to provide this information for us and have no connection to the person we are wondering about.

Thanks again. Rita Seeley

Coldwell Saunders and Mary Boisseau
There is a mix up on Mary Boisseau's grave site. She was the second wife of Coldwell Saunders married in 1912. If you transfer her and Coldwell to me I think I can straiten it out. My number is 46915942. I am a descendant of Coldwell's sister Mary Jeffie.
Thanks, Patti

Thank You
Hi Diane & John, It's me again, Rita. I forgot to say I appreciate the comments you put in when I tell you where I found something that disagrees with the sight. For Instance a death date the did not agree with what was on the stone, I sent a message that I got the date from his Utah death certificate. I am sure people like to know where the information came from too. I am often wondering where a disagreement in dates or names comes from when I can't find proof. This helps one know where to look for the information and maybe straighten out family tree's. I have had some myself.

Thanks again for all of your hard work.
