I expect to be asked for permission to use my headstone and family photographs in your personal genealogy files. This is just common courtesy folks!
I will NEVER give permission for my photos to be put on Ancestry.com. Please just link to the Findagrave memorial from Ancestry. It works very nicely and does not give Ancestry "ownership" of my photos. By uploading my photos to Ancestry you are "giving" them to Ancestry. Read the small print on Ancestry.com during the photo upload.
It is very important to me that the work I do for free does not get charged for on Ancestry.com. Whether you understand or agree with me about this matter or not, I have the right to make that choice for my work. I will not argue copyright with you.
***Transfer Request Rules LINK*** Please use the edit tab at the top right of the memorial you are referring to when sending updates, links and transfer requests. (Please take the time to read the transfer request rules by following the link above). For the most part, I adhere to the transfer guidelines. I do NOT add link to a burial unknown memorial. This is FINDAGRAVE folks! Not "List Everyone Who Ever Died"!
CEMETERIES AND ADDED ALL STONE INFORMATION AND PHOTOS.
NOTE: FAG FAQ say not to add cut and paste obituaries. In trying to comply with this rule I have turned down adding obituaries that have been sent to me. It has become apparent that FAG is adding these obits when people send them to edit@. Since FAG admins are adding I will too. Remove the names of the living before sending the obituary per FAG's "other" rule and the obituary must have attribution too.
NOTE 2: Before there was a rule against it. I added many obituary scans to memorials from our local newspaper from the early 1900. I have now attempted to go back and transcribe all of these into the bio area. Unfortunately it is very difficult to find ones that are not on my own memorials. If you find one please bring it to my attention and I will transcribe it and send it to the memorial manager. Thank you for your help.
RE: just a question None of the links are working (for me anyway). The headstones I am having the problem with are ones that are preset without dates or one of the couple has died and the spouse is being added into the cemetery. These are people that have died recently and the spouse is still alive. If this is an ok thing for findagrave I'll let it go, in any case it is very tacky. By the way I just picked you at random to ask my question in case you were wondering.
Thanks for writing. Since I originally wrote you I have figured out that there were some major bugs in the program that Find a Grave was using for transcribing. Your name came up on some of my memorials but there was no picture on them.
I had uploaded about 10000 pictures that I took over two summers in three local cemeteries. When I head about the transcribing feature I was delighted. I just did not have the time to put them on the site.
One of the major problems is that when the transcribers would type the memorial the pictures were placed in a memorial already created but at the same time it would it would create a duplicate memorial. That is were you name was listed as transcriber but there was no picture.
So far I have spent about 20 hours fixing the mistakes in one of the cemeteries and I am about 1/2 done.
So as far as I am concerned that you did not do anything wrong but the Find a Grave transcribing Program has some major problems.
just a question was wondering if you could tell me how to report to whomever a local person who takes a cemetery records and adds all names of people who have plots. I mean the people who have plots that haven't died, lots of them. Or maybe this is ok to do, I just think it is very tacky. Thanks
Hattie Cummings Chuck,Thanks for the call-out. On the Maggie Rail transcriptions, it says Highland/Calvary Cemetery. Not being from the area, I thought that meant them to be one in the same place. Highland has her husband W.O. Cummings, but Harriet is not listed. I called Highland today, to verify her being laid to rest with her husband as her obit states and they will get back with me after they go to the grave site to see if she has a marker by her husbands side.....or not. Evidently, they couldn't do it this afternoon due to rain. I guess a fire destroyed records around 1930, so there are 'gaps' prior to the date and they need to physically look in this case. Anyhow, I should have left that part blank until her location could be verified. I'll make the change when I get Jason's verification, hopefully tomorrow. Thanks again !
RE: Eating Crow - No need to eat crow or apologize. I found the cemetery at WA Digital Archives-it wasn't on FG, but didn't want to add it until I could find it in person. Now need to return and get the remaining stones photographed. And yes, I hate to see all the "fake" cemeteries showing up lately: it's so hard to get them straightened out. Have a great day!
Eating Crow - Hi, A big thank you for getting the coordinates for West End/Spokane River Cemetery. I was there earlier this week and took a few photos, but forgot to record the location. I could not find it on Google maps. I was given driving directions from another church in West End: in earlier years, there was a school and church and several homes. Thank you for mapping it!
