I am the retired District Librarian for the Quincy Public School District in Quincy, IL and live in Hannibal, MO. I began a serious study of my family tree in 1968 at the age of 16 and have pursued my family history ever since. It's amazing how the search for information has changed in the past 45 years from searching the census on microfilm, writing letters to courthouses and visiting libraries to the digital information now available!|
My interest centers around Marion Co., MO, and Pike and Adams Counties in IL.
My family surnames include Adkins, Shinn, Williams, Gudgel, Reed, Chandler and Haydon, among others too numerous to list. My genealogy is available on ancestry.com and includes over 20,000 individuals.

|K Stone||Shinn line|
I see you descend from Daniel Shinn. His father Clement had two brothers, Jonathan and Levi...my 5th greats.

Thank you so much. I was lost .
But I did find the parents of Ellen Graham Shinn. They were
Gordon Gardner Graham and Elizabeth Betsey Otis, married 1830 in New. London County, Connectixut.
Haven't connected. the 2 Graham girls yet, though. I'm betting there is a connection somewhere.

Hello from Marshall, Missouri.
My grandmother, Fannie May Shinn (b 1881, d 1962)was married to Edmond Demitt Shinn ( b1874, d 1952). Ed was the son of George Henry (b1842, d 1915) and Ellen Graham Shinn.
My 2nd great grandfather was Daniel D Shinn, and 3rd great grandfather was Daniel Shinn. There seem to be lots of genealogy sources tracing the Shinn line.
But I have No Where to start in my grandmother's line, except that I'm rather sure that they met and were married in Pike County, IL. Marriage date was 1 Jan, 1901. So far can't find them in the census records. They were both buried in the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Cemetery, near Farmington.
I know my grandparents and their children lived in various places during the depression years, but I knew of their home as Farmington, St Francios, Missouri. My mother also attended school in Altom, IL, when Robert Wadlow was in High School..
Just hoping for some help with the Brown line in this part of Illinois.

The cemetery sign plainly says "Old Baptist Cemetery", not the Baptist cemetery. Change you location of burial and I will delete my memorial.
Your information is great but I believe it leaves out the most important part. If they are mot buried in the Akers Cememtery, where are they buried wo that I can make that change. I would rather not take him out of all cemeteries altogether. I am a descendant of his brother the Rev. Levi Shinn. I also have no problem with giving the memorial to you as you said he is a direct ancestor. I do know that it is far enough back that I am not required to give you the memorial but I think if possible direct descendants should be in control. Just for reference my line from his brother Levi Shinn is Asa Shinn, Levi Shinn, Emery Shinn, Sally Shinn Riddle and me Robert Riddle. I have created a memorial for me although I am still kicking.

|Sam Andrusko||Duplicate entries?|
Hi, Mia and Tom,
There seem to be two entries for the same person in different cemeteries. Can you determine which is correct? Find A Grave#118356025 and Find A Grave# 125846362--only diference is year of birth, 1894 in one, 1895 in the other; same death date in both.
