Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have enjoyed wandering through cemetery and graveyards all of my life. Now I can't resist clicking through findagrave whenever I can. In 1977, when I began compiling my family history in earnest, I felt drawn to the gravesite of each relative I studied, so during the 1980s, my husband David and I often spent our vacations traveling from one cemetery to another mainly in the Midwest and Northwest. In the 1990s, I organized volunteers from the Fairfax County Genealogical Society to survey over 350 cemeteries and burial sites in the county and oversaw the publication of Fairfax County, Virginia Gravestones, volumes I-VI.

Now that I have discovered findagrave, I am delighted to have a place where I can share hundreds of photographs we have taken of gravestones and memorials all over the country. My thanks to all the contributors who have built this site and to all those who have helped me during the short time I have been a member.

Bertha Williams - Presbyterian Cemetery, Alexandria
Hi Judi

Bertha H (Harrington) Williams is actually buried at Bethel Cemetery (next to the Presbyterian Cemetery. You have her listed as being buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery. You mentioned that her marker cannot be found in tghe Presbyterian Cemetery. You can find her headstone near other Harringtons at the (approximately) the following coordinates.

Thanks for all your work.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for finding my brother's grave. Since I've moved it's been hard to stay in touch with family, (alive and deceased). It means more than words can say.

Starks in Bethel Cemetery
Thank you SO MUCH for all the work you went through getting the pictures of my great-grandfather and great-grandmother and all of my great aunts and uncles in Bethel Cemetery! I was never able to meet them, but having the pictures of their headstones helps them to be real to me. Thank you very much!

John H. Johnston 117781601

Thank you for the pictures of John H. Johnston and Emma Kirchner Johnston which I just found this evening at Presbyterian Cemetery, Alexandria, VA. I just sent an "edit" care of John H's memorial, asking you to link John to his parents.

John Hoffman Johnston was a son of Robert and Laura Ellen Criss Johnston of Harrisonburg, VA. He and Emma Kirchner married when both were in their 40's-, some time between 1910 census and 1920 census. They did not have children. John was a cigar maker and, according to the 1920 census, he owned his cigar store.

John H. Johnston is my husband's great-uncle. We have records indicating he served in the Army during the Spanish American War.

Thanks to you and your picture and memorial, we have closed out a mystery about the date of John's death and his burial location.

Chuck Hilton
Presley, Elizabeth & Almira Jacobs
Thank you Judi for your efforts to provide pics of my 4th GGParents and Almira's monuments. I had pics of Presley's from another grave site but it was on an angle. Presley & Almira lived with my 3rd GGP's Joseph W & Elizabeth Jacobs Taylor after the Death of Presley's wife Elizabeth Chew Jacobs. There was also a Julia Jacobs b.1832 with the Taylors - Too young to be Elizabeth's & Presley's.
Thanks again, I've been looking for Almira for a long time.
