I live in Grand Haven. That's in western Michigan, and is right on the shore of Lake Michigan. |
I enjoy walking cemeteries with my better half, recording headstones here in Michigan. We do this while traveling also, taking pictures in interesting cemeteries and entering them here on FAG. I am mainly a marker recorder, entering pics on existing memorials and creating memorials for those not yet on this site.
Please ask first if you want to use my photos. They may be used only if I am given credit for them w/my permission. Thanks.
I am happy to have had the photograph I took of Maj. Noah Ferry's headstone published in the Civil War Historian magazine Spring 2009, Vol 5, Issue 1, page 20. I was asked permission, which I gave gladly, and was given credit for the photo. That's how it works.
Many memorials I manage are not related to me, and I will
transfer along FAG rules only - direct relatives up to 4 generations...siblings, parents, grandparents, great grandparents only. Ask by clicking on edit, then send me a note including your FAG number. Please don't create a duplicate memorial of anyone.
I do not add obituaries per FAG rules (unless it is pre-1923 per copyright laws).
I think Find A Grave is a great site.

|Erin Lounsbury||Jan & Martha Ammeraal|
Hello! I live right by this cemetery. I've walked it several times to find these graves as well as spoken to one of the Spring Lake librarians but am a little unsure about it.
On July 18, 1942, several volunteers copied all the headstone inscriptions that were legible. The records show the following:
Jan Ammeraal - Born: Feb. 2, 1854 Died: Sept. 28, 1881
Martha deVue - Born: Apr. 6, 1863 Died: Nov. 1884
In 2008, another index was created that lists this information slightly differently: the removal of one M from the surname and Martha's date of death as May 17, 1904.
There's a problem, however. After I spoke to the groundskeeper who showed me the section in which Jan & Martha are designated, there was only had two headstones in the entire section. One had been of marble and had broken at the base, which no one seemed to have a record of let alone located. The second one, which gives me the chills, is the one I believe is for Jan because of the date. I know I can be easily amused but it is the only wood headstone in the entire cemetery and is one of the coolest things to me. There is nothing left to read on it, and it is pretty deteriorated, but there used to be a very large tree right next to it but was cut down quite awhile ago. When the person was buried, it would have been a beautiful setting.
I have pictures so if you think this is correct, I will post them here.

Was interested in how you might be related to Rodney and Diane Kelley. I went to school with Rodney.

Thanks so much. It worked. Now Uncle Wayne has the brothers we are able to locate so far. I cannot find Uncle Chuck, Uncle Jerry (Gerald who died in FL) and Uncle Lawrence. Still looking.

Thank you for the heads up on the duplication of the subject memorial. I have removed one.
|Margaret C Cowles||memorial #38042544|
Uncle Wayne (Cowles) is listed on each of his parents' (Thomas McKinley #75956326 and Martha Siendstrang #75956391) but not on any of his brothers' memorial (LaVern H or Harold R. for example)! It's new and maybe still has bugs! LOL
Is there any way you can help correct the oversight? If you deleted his parents and then re-entered them a day or so later, would that make the new way of adding siblings work?
Or do you know a way to draw it to the attention of the new crew now in Charge?
The new way of linking, name change, birth & death data, plot # & transcription is great! But there's still the duplicate problems not solved!
Thanks now for anything you can do to help us.
