Thank you for using the EDIT TAB on the LISTINGS instead of the message board because it makes updating listings a EASY instead of a CHORE.
Thank you newbies who read this and start using the edit tab to relay information to me.
1. Use the edit tab to send additional info for a listing.
People say, "Transfer to me because there is SO MUCH to add...". This suggests a person new to FAG. The edit tab is a wonderful tool. You type up everything and you've done all the work. All that we admins do is copy and paste what you feed to us into the listing.
2. Out of respect for privacy, I have stopped posting information on listings pertaining to living individuals or people of such an age that they might be living. For example lists of survivors found in an obit. I will paraphrase the obit as survived by spouse, daughter, two brothers and a sister. Because the info is coming from an obit and I like to state which paper/date, a researcher can contact that source for a complete obituary. I am working to look through the existing listings to edit to this level of privacy.
3. Transfers are made per Findagrave guidelines. You'll find them on the FAQ page. I ignore requests that fall outside of guidelines.
4. Please allow 30 days to add information to listings and to make transfers. I have a busy life and a schedule to keep. In these days of instant gratification, there are folks who get a little annoyed that my life and their lives don't sync. They wish changes happened faster. Please be patient and in your frustration, don't create dupe listings. If your requests haven't happened in 30 days, follow FAG's process on resolving the issue.
The FAG process is this: If after 30 days the changes you've requested haven't happened, then you contact FAG and tell them about it. If the transfer you've requested hasn't happened, ask yourself:
Did I say how I'm related to the listing?
If I did, is the request outside of FAG guidelines?
If everything is kosher on your side, get in touch with FAG support. They have made transfers to me that are within guidelines and more importantly, they have made corrections for me when transfer was outside of guidelines. You have gotta be patient with the people in FAG support. Consider how many grave listings are on this site and consider the sheer volume of email they receive. The last request I sent to support to add info to a listing of a distant cousin took well over a month for them to respond to. Maybe they've added staff since then... but if not you will need to be patient.
Human nature has a tendency when faced with frustration to create a dupe listing, please don't. If everyone did that the FAG servers would crash and then where would we be...
