I got interested in genealogy during high school and began researching with my dad & my grandmother, but only recently have had the time to dedicate to it again. I've found some ancestors' gravesites/info on this site and have begun going to cemeteries where my ancestors are buried and getting my own photos too. I thought I'd volunteer to take some photos locally to help others.

RE: Bethel Cemetery - George W. McAtee
Dear Mary,

Have you had a chance to visit the cemetery to look for my gggrandfather, George W. McAtee ?

Thank you so much for your consideration,
Best regards,

Oh thank you so much, Mary. I wonder if the grave stone has been broken or destroyed somehow, as it seems odd that no one has posted a photo.

I live in GA and may never be able to get to the actual grave site. But I do hope to someday. It is amazing to me how much you can grow to love your family that you have never met as you collect information about their lives.

Also, if you have any suggestions about local resources, historical societies, churches, etc. where I might find out more about George and Nancy McAtee, I would appreciate it.

Bethel Cemetery - George W. McAtee
Dear Mary,
I see that you took the photo of Nancy Blakely McCullough McAtee's Memorial# 51202574 infant son Memorial# 51255987 at Bethel Ridge Cemetery, Atwater, Macoupin County, Illinois, USA.

Other McAtee family members are buried there also.

I strongly suspect that Nancy McAtee's husband, George Whitfield McAtee's burial site is there too, probably next to or very near Nancy, but no one has recorded the grave site on Find A Grave.

Would you be able to go there and see if you can find and photo George Whitfield's grave site please? George and Nancy McAtee are my gggrandparents.

He would have been born, probably 15 March 1810; and some say he died 11 June 1866.

Thank you for considering my request.

Mary I went down to Buffington Cemetery yesterday and a person has to walk thru a timber and part of a bean field. I will try and get down there and look for Chloe's grave when it gets a bit drier, we have had over 3 inches of rain around here.

I.Camp at Old Cemetery
I found what I think is I.Camps stone. It is broken in 3 pieces. I have been in the process of putting some of them back together. When the weather permits, I will go out there and try to read it with aluminum foil , then I will know for sure I am right. When I am done reading it, I will put it back together and put a base under it. I take care of the Hillcrest Cemetery in Mtn, Grove and we go to the Old cemetery and keep it mowed.

RE: Shaw's Point Cemetery
Yep, that's the same guy. Those who are related to my g-grandfather's 1st wife are her parents James M Cooper and Mary Brown Carrico Cooper. They had lived in the area when the Shaw's Point Baptist Chruch was up and running. Then they moved to Montgomery Co. The church had been nearer to the corner and I believe he said there had been a school right there too. Small world!

RE: Shaw's Point Cemetery
Yes Mary, that's it. A gentleman that lives out on Atwater Rd is a decendant of many buried there. I knew that my g-grandfather's 1st wife's parents are buried there and wanted to put up a memorial for them. You're great! Thanks for posting the cemetery!
