Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to add my Aunt's memorial. I am new here, but I have started doing the same.

Would you please transfer ownership to me so I can add dates, an obit., and relationships.

Thanks again

RE: Hope You Are OK!
Hey, Charles:
It is so good to hear from you! Thank you so very much for remembering me & sending best wishes! I hope you are doing well, also, & I hope you had some wonderful holidays filled with all things that puts a smile on your face & joy in your heart! I have not been doing as much here at Find A Grave as I use to a couple years ago, but I have started back lately visiting more frequently than I was. I still think of you'all often & miss my visiting & staying in touch like I use to be able to do. Since 2010 things have been somewhat a little bit crazy around here & I have had to cut out a lot of my leisure or 'me time' if you know what I mean.
Thanks again for your message.....it is always a pleasure to hear from you; so please stay in touch!
Hugs & God Bless.

I found it! I found Modie's marker!
Hi Charles. I went there again today to take photos in a plot that is close to Holly Plot. So, I thought I would take another look. This time, I walked the length of the row starting at 223 and heading north, and there it was, in lot 228, rather than 223. I guess I wrote down the wrong number.

I almost did a happy dance next to his grave. And just think, if you had not told me about the addition of the portrait photo of Modie, I would never have been inspired to go back out and have another look.

Be sure to tell Renee, that there are now photos of the real location of Modie's grave.

Take care, Charles. It's been fun doing this for you.

RE: Modie
Well, Charles, I was out there yesterday and went straight to lot 223 where Modie is supposed to be. No luck finding him. There were at least 2 spots in that lot that appeared to be unmarked. I have a feeling that his marker has been covered over by sod, over the years. This has happened to me on many occasions here in Inglewood. The grounds appear to be well taken care of, but occasionally this happens. I had one pair of stones over in the Magnolia Plot that were buried 5 or 6 inches down. The groundskeepers uncovered them for me, and I was able to go back and get photos. Maybe that is what has to be done in Modie's case. You know, I bet you think I'm being anal about this, but I am not going to give up. Especially since his sister knows there is a stone there, and you've added that adorable photo of him to his memorial. I want his memorial to be complete, no matter what it takes. I'll keep you apprised of my endeavor!
Best Regards,
Bonnie

Modie
Hi Charles. I got so tied up with other stuff this weekend that I did not get out to the Holly Plot to find Modie. I promise I will get out there this week for sure.
Sincerely,
Bonnie

PS - I'm over 50 and single and it's not every day I get called "honey". Thanks for that!

Bingo! I just got off the phone with them, and Renee is correct. One of them gave me the wrong information 2 years ago, when they said he was buried next to David and the grave was unmarked. He is buried in another lot number (228) and the grave is marked.

No need to do another photo request. I will personally go out there this weekend and photograph his grave. My apologies for the mix up. It never hurts to double check. This has taught me a valuable lesson.

I'll let you know when the photo has been added.

Sincerely,
Bonnie

RE: Modie Bertsche
Hey Charles, I'll check with the cemetery but I thought I asked at the office and was told the grave was unmarked. Before we come to conclusions, I will check again and make sure. If the grave is marked, there is a chance it is covered with sod. I kid you not when I say that I have literally dug out gravestones. I've also had to have the cemetery workers dig out stones that were covered really deep. So I'll get back to you on this.

Cool old photo! I love it. I'm so glad you were able to add something more "visual" to his memorial, since he doesn't have a marker. Thank you so much for letting me know.
Best Regards,
Bonnie

RE: Hope You Are OK!
Thank you for thinking of me! I'm so sorry I'm just now replying; I haven't been able to visit Find A Grave as often as I use to due to some health issues. Also, the storms (4 huge trees fell) did some major damage to my home & garage/storage buildings; thank heavens no flooding! Thanks a million; your kindness is always appreciated!
Hugs,
CJ

That's so cool that you found Renee. I lived in Gardena from about 1961 to 1970. I attended 156th Street Elementary School, and I went to Peary Jr. High in 1968 to 1970, when we moved to Ohio for a while. Did you go to Peary or Gardena High?

RE: Elmo Bertschi
You're welcome. I would have done that for you, but wasn't sure so it's better this way. How sad about how he died. I hope that someday they find a cure for all cancers and leukemias. Twenty years ago I was saying this, that I hoped they would find a cure in my lifetime. I am still hopeful. I had a little cousin who died at the age of 2 from cancer in the early 1960s. What happened to little David? Did he suffer the same fate? Would you like a transfer, so that you can add more information yourself? Whatever you want is okay with me.
Best Regards,
Bonnie

RE: Elmo Bertschi
I'm sorry. Did you see my earlier message? Yes, Elmo's grave is unmarked and is next to David's. The view of the area was taken so that you could see where Elmo's grave is in relation to David's. A close-up shot would have only shown grass. I am always disappointed when a grave is unmarked. The staff confirmed that he has no marker and that this is the right place.
Best Regards,
Bonnie

Elmo Bertschi - Inglewood Park
Hello. I have found Elmo's burial site, however I am sorry to report that it is not marked. He is buried next to David Lee Bertschi, who also died very young. I am adding a memorial for David with photos. I will fulfill your request for Elmo with a photo showing the place he is buried. I am sorry this was not a more positive outcome.
Best Regards,
Bonnie

I often try and help people who don't have the birth and death date of their love one. Most cemeteries are not digitalized and won't take the time to look up graves that don't at least have a death date. Some years ago, I searched for my relatives in this cemetery and found them far from cooperative. I looked up your Elmo Bertschi in the Calif. Death Records and found the following. He was born 12 Dec 1942 in Texas and died 15 May 1957 in Los Angeles Co., CA. I hope this helps someone find his grave and take a photo for you.
