The headstone of Ama Jane Fleshman is NEAR the Henderson cemetery in Wilkinson CO, MS. The stone is not in the Henderson Cemetery but a little ways off. I know this as it is on our property. Have no idea why it is in this area and do not know any of the history, but would love to know why it is located here.

RE: Jules Dreyfuss
Or, if you'd like to maintain his memorial, I'm willing to transfer it to your care. Either solution is fine with me.

RE: Jules Dreyfuss
As I was unsure how to handle his lengthy obituary, I checked the FAQs for guidance. Since Mr. Dreyfuss died before 1922, I can copy and paste it to the bio section because it's old enough to be considered public domain. Since the FAQs state NOT to scan it and add it as a photo, I'll just delete the photos that you were kind enough to add. If you'll email the obit to me, I'll copy and paste (or transcribe) it and add it that way. My email address is

RE: Big Cane Cemeteries
We went and walked both Dubuisson Cem and Big Cane today. Sorry to say, but we didn't find any more Sloane or Fleshman headstones. You could try and contact the Big Cane Baptist Church and see if you can get a listing of this Cem. If you can get it if be happy to enter them. I have no idea who has the Dubuisson Cem. Not sure but I think say Landry Parish has a Historical Society or maybe the Lafayette Diocese has a list (if it is Catholic). Sorry we couldn't do more for you! I will say that Anna Lou Fleshman is in a plot big enough for two but there's only one headstone. I added a picture to her memorial. She buried between Pickett family members.

RE: Big Cane Cemeteries
Sloane, there are several cems in the area. You can take a look at them on the F.A.G. app. It's not the best app out there but it does a fairly good job of showing cems on a map.

I'll try and run out there one evening next week. I've been to the Dubuisson cem before, hubby has some family there. I'll go shoot the cem and upload the pics so you can see everyone there that has a headstone.

If you do a little research on the app you'll see other cems that are there and if you would like me to go let me know those too. You can look at the cems then click into them for their list of names.

You could search census records to see what their neighbors names were...sometimes neighbors went to the same churches...and in this area the last names can tell you a lot. The names you are looking for don't sound French (and therefore probably Catholic) and the area is predominately catholic (French and French Canadian origins). If you knew the religion that could help. But of course that's a best guess.

There are few (if any) community cemeteries there unless you go into Bunkie or some of the surrounding communities.

Hope I've helped (I certainly did cause more research!).

RE: Big Cane Cemeteries
Where would you like me to look? There's more than one cem in the Dubisson area.

RE: Big Cane Cemeteries
Good morning ~~

Feel free to contact me about cems and I'll do as much as I can. I'm like everyone else - I do cems as I can (I work full time) and I like to go places not too far from home. Dubisson is probably doable if you can send me to specific cemeteries rather than me just wandering around :)

I'll be happy to try for you if I can!

RE: Bertie O'Barr
Thanks for adding the link.

I probably don't know much about Bertie that your cousin doesn't already know. Her name was Roberta and she was E. M. Bramlett's second wife. She was born in Floyd County, Georgia and moved to Alabama. Several of her siblings moved to Alabama, also. Her parents did not move to Alabama, they died in Floyd County. I believe Bertie & husband moved from Alabama to Missouri and later to Arkansas.

I have some info on the family in Georgia, some of it can be seen by following the links on Find A Grave. If your cousin wants to email me with some specific questions, I will try to answer them if I can. - Bobbie (

RE: Hi
Whit, My great grandmother was Lillie Frances Andrus Laughlin, wife of Solomon Laughlin and dtr of Margarete Sloane & Jasper Andrus.

My great grandfather's (Solomon Laughlin) sister (Margaret Laughlin) married Robert B Sloane, who is Margarete Sloane Andrus's brother.

Bottom line...I descend from Andrus, Laughlin & Sloane on my Mom's side. My Mom is a Laughlin.

Confused? So am I.

Would be happy to share anything I have.

I'm the great granddaughter of Ellie Mae Bramblett Lester. I was just wondering if you are related. Thank you for the information and pictures you've provided. I never knew her parents were buried next to her. I showed my mother this site and she was thrilled to know about her great grandparents.

RE: Hi
That would be great.
Frances Kaziah Colvin, daughter of Nicholas Colvin, Jr. married David Thomas James from South Carolina. Their son, David Colvin James met Mamie Ruth Weir while visiting in TN. He married her and moved to TN where they raised 8 children, my mother being one of them.
What is so interesting is Henry Davis Weir's mother, Sarah Colvin, married Mayberry Wright. Their grandson of Mary A Wright and Matthew Weir, Henry Davis Weir, was my grandmother's father. Her name was Mamie Ruth Weir. That makes both of my ancestors, the James' & Weir's, related through Nicholas Colvin Sr. and his wife, Susan Elam. One being Nicholas Colvin, Jr./Nancy Stone, and his sister, Sarah Colvin/Mayberry Wright.
I have been researching the James/Colvin connection and any help will be appreciated. I have not been able to trace the James family very easily. I know they were from South Carolina, but there aren't many living now. Thanks. Diane
