I was out there last weekend trying to fill some of the many requests, I got maybe 8 or so.
After I returned home, I read your comments on a couple of failed locations where U noted that the cemetery has a written record of placements but they wouldn't let ya borrow the map.
I really would like to view, but not take possession, of that map so the question is, can U tell me where to go or who to contact for that purpose ??
Later, James Coston

RE: Whitley Family
Hi Sadie! I was going aback through my messages, and it didn't look like I sent a reply with my thanks, so I wanted to do that! I will try to keep you posted when I learn more about this particular branch of my son-in-law's family!

But once again, many thanks for the work that you and your friends do!!

I am so sorry I did not transfer her to you until now. I was deleting old emails and found this. My husband died 3 days before this request and I must confess I was quite out of my mind at the time. I am OK now and thank you for your friendship. :).

I am sorry, Sadie, that I just now looked at my messages here! I will have to gather up more info about Sampson, and find a way to share it with you.

I did find a death certificate for him online at one website.

He is my son-in-law's gr-grandfather. Or maybe it is gr-gr-grandfather. I am pretty sure that most of the rest of the family moved to Arkansas at some point, so that may be why the 80 somethings are drawing a blank. I think my son-in-law's grandma is in her mid 70's and has lived in Arkansas for a long time.

I will get back with you, and many THANKS!!

I have about half of them done and will try to finish later today. It occurred to me that you might have information that conflicts with what I have posted and please feel no conflict about changing what I have. I worked from death certificates and made a 'best guess' as to burial site when it wasn't specified.

I'm glad that it seems your back if feeling better. I, too, have similar problems and don't do much photographing any more.

Best regards,

I have quite a few so it will bump up your number of managed memorials. I am not a 'collector' of memorials as some are and am happy for any interested family member or friend to have the management. I will get them done ASAP.

I am not related to the family in any way that I know of. I became interested in the Latson family in working on a different project and I went back and put in memorials for all I could find using death certificates. Since you are a member of the family, I would be glad to transfer my Latson memorials to you if you want. Otherwise, they will remain in my care.

Best regards,

Itasca Cemetery
Hi Sadie, Thank you for all that you do. My Father, brother,Great grand parents and several cousins are buried at the Itasca Cemetery. I came last week to put flowers on their graves and work on some of the plots, The grass and weeds are out of control, and it breaks my heart.
Also went to the funeral home to check to see if one of my cousins is buried on a plot with his father - also the rcords at the funeral home were in a BIG MESS, Since you live in Itasca and work taking photo's at the cemetery, Do you have any suggestion's how to get help maintaing the Cemetery?Any suggestions are thoughts would be appreciated. I know Itasca is a small community.
Thanks in Advance...Linda

RE: Sampson Whitley: #116941443
Thank you, Sadie, so much for trying! Sampson is the son of John and Rosa (Franklin) Whitley, and according to Find a Grave, died May 8, 1954, and is buried in the Luke Tipton Cemetery.

I suppose it is possible that the date and/or the burial place are not correct.

At this point, I don't have the names of any other of Sampson's children.

The son that goes 'down' towards my son-in-law is Lee Norman "Buddy" Whitley who married Bessie Brown.

Their child, my son-in-law's grandmother, is Eula Jean Whitley. Other children of Buddy and Bessie were/are (I don't know who lives and who does now) is William Lee "Whit" (deceased and buried in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, John C, Elvyn L, Wilbert N, Rosa Mae.

My son-in-law doesn't seem to feel comfortable asking family history questions of his mother or grandmother, and so I am not sure who we could ask.

Is there a Hill County genealogy society that I could perhaps gain a bit more info from? And do you know if there is a local paper that might have had an obituary that I could order?

Like you, I love to solve puzzles!! My son-in-law's mother told me that they were part Cherokee, and my granddaughter is fascinated by that possibility! Thanks to my son-in-law's step-dad, my son-in-law no longer has a relationship with his mother, so this is all very sad, and also makes asking questions impossible.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Thanks Sadie for the correction. It has been made. Bob McEver and Donald Wyatt have done a huge amount of work in the area and I'm sure that was just a slip on D vs B when transcribing it at home.
Your efforts are appreciated since I'm about 2,000 miles away.
