RE: Ingaborg Helgeson
With Solie's buried in the family cemetery, I can see why a connection was made to Ole Erickson Solie. Why they are there is a mystery to me as well. I called my aunt about it and she said the name "Solie" sounds familiar but she doesn't remember why.

I would love to join the Facebook group and will be able to add a few interesting facts about Ingeborg's family.

RE: Ingaborg Helgeson
Hello Beth!

Thank you so much for your reply. I believe that the researcher on ancestry.com has cited the wrong Erickson family for Ingeborg. Ingeborg is my great-aunt, the daughter of Ole and Kari Erickson who immigrated from Norway in 1852 with their children Ingeborg and Erick (my great-grandfather.) Another daughter, Hellen, was born in Wisconsin. Ole and Kari are buried in the Halfway Creek church cemetery under the names Ole and Kari Erickson Marka. Kari died in 1865 and in 1866 the family moved to Minnesota to homestead there. Ingeborg stayed in Wisconsin and married Carl Helgeson. Ole returned to Wisconsin late in life and was buried with Kari at Halfway Creek.

I have offered my research to the researcher at Ancestry.com and am happy to send it to you as well if you like. It is easiest for me to scan my documents and email them.

Sincerely,
Carolyn

Ingeborg Helgeson
Hello Beth-
I am interested in your information sources for Ingeborg Helgeson's middle name and the names of her parents, since I have Erickson ancestors who also lived in the Holman area in the 1850's.

My husband has some "Lynn" family in his tree... So, I'm ALWAYS really happy to have requests to connect family. Maybe one day, we will figure out all of our long lost relatives.

RE: Jostad Family transfers
We've not been able to figure that out. I have been unable to find any news story about their deaths or obits. I also haven't been able to find any stories about an epidemic sweeping through the county at that time. I also have not been able to find death certificates but that's not unusual since they weren't required by law until the early 1900s.

Sadder still, of the 15 children in the family, only 5 lived to adulthood, and one of them, Anton A., died at 18.

RE: Jostad Family transfers
Alice Helgesen's husband Anton O (not to be confused with Anton A) is the nephew of the Jostad children in Helgesen Cemetery. His father was their brother Olaus.

Genealogy info source
Since you are new to genealogy research, perhaps you are not aware of these resources:

The LaCrosse Public library has a wonderful online database of local/area info for genealogists at lacrosselibrary.org (local history/genealogy tab).

Also there is a county cemetery index covering some of the smaller cemeteries outside the city at webpages.charter.net/laxcounty/

If you have a WI library card in good standing you can get to a great readable/copyable online newspaper source through babdgerlink.net

A trip to the library's local history department is also worth a trip but be sure to check the website for hours because they are not open the same hours as the rest of the library.

Wilhelm H. Helgeson
Beth,

Here is another child of Carl Helgeson - http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Helgeson&GSby=1874&GSbyrel=in&GSdyrel=all&GSst=50&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=17717208&df=all&

You can send a request to the person who maintains it requesting she connect Wilhelm to Carl (just provide Carl's Find A Grave Memorial# 124917634).

You can also provide the number for Carl's wife after her entry becomes listed.

Scott

RE: Hardy request
Hi Beth,
About halfway down this page:

there are directions on how to add a cemetery. It would seem to me that you could add a family cemetery that way.

Relationships can be tricky. For any record that you create, you can add family relationships (spouse and parents). But in order to connect siblings, you have to be able to connect the siblings to their parents. And if someone else has created the records for the children, you have to ask them to connect to the parents. Most people are wonderful, though, about doing that when asked. Your family is spread across such a wide area that it will be helpful to have the family relationships in place.
Best of luck!
Brenda

RE: Hardy request
Hello again,

I had one more thought as I was preparing the email for my aunt and cousin. If you click on the "edit" tab of Howard and Ole Hardy's records, you could ask the person who created them to link their records to Phillip and Ollie's records. It would be nice to have the family relationships there as well.

Just a thought,

Brenda
