Glad you like the Memorial. Those who walked tall and stood out should be remembered by more than just a picture of their Grave Marker.

Don't be bashful! Think of the person on the other end. If they are seeing the request and accept the request then they wanted to take the pictures. If I could find and fulfill headstone requests 24/7....then I would! I am in love with this site 200%. Oh how I wish my relatives were alive to pick their brains. My dad was into family and photos but when he got into his 90's it was hard to get the information. We ask about "Aunt Martha" and 20 words later we were hearing about a reunion that was held 40 years ago that had nothing to do with Aunt Martha. "did I ever tell you about......" and he was off and running on his story. My mom passed away way too young and I was still enjoying my young life and didn't care at that time about older kinfolk. Some of the headstones we post have obituaries that make you wish you could sit at the kitchen table with that person and hear about their life.

Glad you liked the photos.

RE: Callie Sterling Whitlock
I found the other marriage to Callie SMITH, married 1915 (see their memorial pgs for info). I'm still questioning whether or not these are all the same people, or people with similar names and data. If its same guy with both wives named Callie, then the one in the Millet cemetery could well be the first wife.

About your request to link Arthur to his mother "Mattie" ... I'm like many contributors nowadays, I don't link to unknown burials. IF you think she is possibly buried with her family, then put her in the cemetery, or you can always list her as "body lost or otherwise destroyed"...then I'll gladly link to her.

I use to link to unknowns, though only a few. There was so much talk about the site being called "find a grave" for a reason (knowing where the grave is) that I decided I should conform to the rules for memorial entries - that being, having some sort of final disposition for each name. Many of course have no known final disposition; those are listed "cremated/other" and an explanation is given in the notes. In the case of Mattie, she is certainly "lost". Just list her that way and if you ever locate her then change it.

Feel free to contact me with, or about, anything. I'm all for getting info correct. We ALL make typos, I know I do because my arthritic fingers don't always do what my mind tells them to do, hah! I think more people need to be concerned about "corrections" rather than just posting or updating blindly. If data isn't "corrected" then it will forever be perpetuating incorrect info that gets passed on, and on, and on. Again, feel free to contact me any time for any reason!

RE: Callie Sterling Whitlock
I looked at that entry - I always look at names before linking, I never link blindly. There really isn't anything to see on her, just dates. The problem I have with this entry is that I believe it was done from copying a transcript found on the La Salle County web page, not by an actual walk-thru survey, not from photo proof, etc. Even the cemetery photo was copied by another contributor and used on this site. That's the problem when things are "copied", they also include the original typos made by the person who initially did the work.

Needs more research. Documented/sourced research is always welcomed!

RE: Callie Sterling Whitlock
Hi! All I know is the the info seems to fit the names I have in Oak Island Cemetery, Bexar Co; same places of reference, same dates, etc. Could just be a coincidence there is another one with same/similar name, or perhaps its a typo and 1914 was suppose to be 1944?

Added by Deb on Jan 03, 2015 2:35 PM

Please see the info I added to her pg and you'll understand the confusion about her maiden name. I removed the maiden name altogether.

The marriage was under the name Sterling, yes. But on her DC, its given as Smith, and A.N. Whitlock (same name as husband) is the one who gave the info.

Makes it confusing for her pg because if I enter it one way, someone else will come along and give me the info as it being the other way.

No ... Part of the inscription on the stone was in shadow when I was there. Your Yancy photos are in full sun & are, therefore, better than mine.

My photo excursion today was actually to Lake Creek, north of Cooper, where I gathered photos for a dozen photo requests. One request posted there was for a gentleman whom I had earlier, determined to be at rest in Oaklawn, rather than Lake Creek. So, I swung by to get the shot ... otherwise I would not have been to Oaklawn at all today.

Perhaps one day our paths will cross. I'll look forward to it.

ha ha ha ...

Actually ... I think we may have; but you just didn't know it.

As I was leaving the cemetery, I passed a couple searching thru stones at the west end of Section J; and their vehicle was parked there at the edge of the road. I remember thinking that they looked like a coupla' "gravers" taking photos. By the time I got back home, you had claimed the Ada Yancy photo request (which I also photographed).

Did you look for any of the ones within the IOOF section? I didn't have time to look for those.
