"RATHER BE THAN SEEM"

Permission is given to use my pictures for any non-commercial purpose.

-----------------------------------

A few years ago, I created a Virtual Cemetery for veterans buried at Rose Hill. This is not yet complete, but I continue to work on it. Many vets do not have a vet's marker. For these veterans, I have used other veteran-related resources, such as the V.A. BIRLS death file.

Along the way, I have identified 48 KIAs. If you get a chance, please leave a virtual flower to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

-----------------------------------

Late in 2014, I completed uploading pix of the markers and monuments that I could find at the Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.

I would like to thank Beckie Saar Leone (Contributor #47783924) for her help and encouragement during this project.

I would also like to thank the employees of Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park - Office and Maintenance - for their co-operation in the past and many kindnesses.

---------------------------------------------

As I am an amateur photographer, many of my early pix are no longer satisfactory to me. In an effort to upgrade my product, I have been re-editing, or retaking these pix and replacing them with a better (hopefully) photo. In the meantime, if the reader sees one of my pix that could be improved upon, please let me know and I will try to fix it.

----------------------------------------------

It is believed that all of the headstones have been photographed. However, there are still about 1,550 Memorials without a marker picture. They might have been missed for many reasons:

- original photo removed by a prior photographer;
- marker completely covered by dirt, debris and/or vegetation (found 59 so far);
- duplicate Memorial, often with a variant spelling of the name (I have identified as many duplicate Memorials as I could, but it is likely that there are more);
- still living;
- overlooked;
- recently deceased and waiting for a marker;
- grave NEVER marked (this seems to be the most common);
- marker no longer legible;
- never buried here (there are over a couple of dozen "Rose Hills" in Texas!).
- disinterred and reburied elsewhere.

Since the cemetery office has recently stated that they will only furnish grave locations to family members, I can no longer locate these graves.

If the reader is a family member and would like a picture for a Memorial whose grave has not yet been photographed, please obtain the garden name, lot and space numbers from the cemetery office at 817-451-3333. Once that is done, please contact me & I will take care of it.

-----------------------------------------------

As the stones were photographed, there were many that had no corresponding Memorial. In that instance, I have created one and transferred those Rose Hill Memorials to Becky Saar Leone. She is already caring for many Memorials in Rose Hill and has done a wonderful job in matching deceased family members.

While I have created Memorials, as necessary, it is understood that some might be duplicates. If the reader sees a duplicate, notes an error, or can add information on these new Memorials, please let Beckie know & that will be addressed.

Thanks, Tony
