Kathryn, I have moved him to Holy Rosary. I think the original burial place came from you, but I know I can trust you when you give me additions and/or corrections. You are a good researcher.

There must be more than one James J. Murphy, because the photo I took for James J. Murphy (1896-1969) at Maryhill Cemetery shows a different headstone than the one posted for James John Murphy in Find a Grave. The stone was next to the one for Joseph D. Murphy.

I just posted the photo of the gravestone for Joseph D. Murphy at Maryhill Cemetery. Next to his marker was the gravestone for James J. Murphy (1896-1969), listed as Father and Husband. I can post a photo for James if you have a memorial page set up for him. There are a couple of other James Murphys in Find a Grave, so I wasn't sure if any of these were the correct match.

Yes that is the right gravestone. Thank you very much! Lee is his nickname. His real name is Andrew Leon Carroll and he did marry Ellen Durrett. She went by the name Eller or Ellie.
They also had 2 daughters.

I transferred the Hoovers.
Just a side note, the last time we were at Salem, taking tombstone pics, I noticed a distinct odor of cigar smoke, just lasted a few seconds and it was gone. My husband noticed the same thing. No one was anywhere around. Was very quiet. Thought you might be interested. Kind of unexplainable.

You are welcome. I would be glad to transfer all the Hoovers, and almost any others, if you want them.

Thanks so much. I'am transferring him to you, so you can fix his memorial as you wish.

The memorial number you gave me takes me to the memorial for James Leo Kendrick, whose parents are listed in my family file as Robert Kendrick and Mary Monica Donnally - not the parents you listed.

You are very welcome. Glad to be of assistance. I am very glad you like them. I went out on Monday and totally messed up the shots. I didn't find that out until Monday night when I was getting ready to post them. I had to go back out Tuesday morning to get the shots I sent. Because of the extra trip to the cemetery, your very thoughtful message means just that much more.
BTW, I hope to visit more Missouri cemeteries in the spring. If it is okay with you, I will notify you of my planned itenerary as soon as it is done.

Any photos you have would be wonderful. I don't know if you have them or would like them but I have a photo of Leo John Yates and Catherine Stephens and their children. Just let me know. John Austin Yates would be my g-granduncle. lol I love photos and never knew any of my grandparents and my father was killed before I was born so I have had to search and search for any information on his side. So anything you can share on the Yates would be wonderful. Thanks so much. Email me at: email@example.com

Thank you so much, the last time I was at the cemetery was about 2001. The stone was very old but you could still read it. Do you know who would have paid to have it done? My cousin couldn't find the Bicks when she was there and I was just worried something had happened to that one also. She said a lot of broken stones were on the side of the cemetery. Also do you know the story of the priest I think it was that came in and destroyed a lot of the stones and threw them down in the river bed there. I remember my Uncle Harold Yates telling a story about that. I just can't remember all the details. I do know that the reason their is family buried in the other cemetery is that they lived right across the street from the other cemetery. Hattie Payne had a real hard time looking over at the cemetery from her porch everyday. That is where Nellie Dee Yates and John W Stephens are buried. How are you related to the Yates?

I was wondering if someone can tell me about a couple of graves that is at Indian creek. My cousin went to the cemetery today and said my grandparents stone is gone and a new flat stone is in its place. Leo John Yates and Catherine Bell Stephens is the name. She also said my great grandmothers stone wasn't there Margaret Bick and Thomas James Yates. If anyone knows what is going on can you please let me know. They were tall old stones. Thanks Brenda

You are correct about the dates on his grave marker, but the dates on his memorial are from his death certificate. I find that dates on grave markers often are wrong, especially if they are entered some years after the event. That is probably the case here -- they had to have been entered several years after his death, after the death of his wife. I have made a note to the effect that the dates differ between his death certificate and his grave marker.

I am aware that there is a difference in his date of birth between that on the 1900 census and what is shown on his grave marker. I have noted that the date of birth is from the 1900 census in the bio on his memorial.

Hi, Kathleen :) It took me awhile to find your member #, but I have transferred your family members to your care. If you would use the "edit" tab in the upper right hand corner of each memorial that you are writing about, and then choose "suggest a correction"--the email that the other person receives contains a link to the memorial and to your member page and it makes the whole process much easier. Thanks and take care. Kathy
