RE: Re: John F Zimmerman
Researched the Civil War records of the Zimmerman boys and found the following, just as we suspected:
John Fetterolf Zimmerman had been first drafted in the Militia of 1862 to serve as the musician of Company H 14th Regiment of the Militia of 1962, serving from 9/13/1862 to 9/26/1862. He and his brothers Henry F.Zimmerman and Daniel F. Zimmerman all enrolled on 1 Nov 1862 in the 9 month drafted militia of Company H 172nd Regiment (Not the 177th as in the History of Northumberland County states).
Henry died of typhoid fever 23 Mar 1863 at Yorktown, VA.
Daniel and John were both discharged on 31 Jul 1863.
I have all their Veterans Affairs burial cards, and the Regiment history by Samuel Penniman Bates (you can get this online also).
Any questions, let me know. Thanks for inquiring about him!

RE: John F Zimmerman
You're right - doing some Civil War research on him - will let you know what I find-he may have been in the 14th of Militia of 1862 as stated on his burial card, then on that second date mustered in with the 177th - hard to tell - when I go to the Archives again, may have to dig up his file thereto confirm- will do some other means of research in the meantime. You have me curious now!

RE: John F Zimmerman
I am not sure how John F. Zimmerman's memorial got added to the cemetery where his first wife is buried, but he is definitely buried in Wildwood, Williamsport, Lycoming County, PA. This is confirmed by both their records and his Veterans Affairs file burial records. Perhaps his name is just on a stone with his first wife or something???? This is only a hunch- I've never been to that cemetery to check if any stone. There is also an obituary that mentions he will be buried in Williamsport, PA (next to his second wife). Thanks for pointing this out - I'll work on it!

RE: Susanna McFadden Picken
I also claim them as my 5x great-grandparents. I come from Jane's brother Alpheus. Alpheus married Jane Anderson and one of their children was Susie Picken who married Henry Funk Sr. That couple would be my 3-great-grandparents.

I don't know if you are aware of it but many years ago Harold DeGood and Miles Bacon compiled as much as they could on the Picken/McFadden descendants and I have been slowly extending and updating it over the last 20 years or so.

If you are interested I do have a lot of the Picken Reunion news articles on my website. I combed through the Fremont, IA Gazette and took copies from microfilm which I then cut and taped together and scanned. I have most of them from 1902 - 1963 when they ended the reunion. I am probably missing 4 or 5 and I know that one year it was not held. If you would like the URL send me a regualr email and I will send it. I don't want to post it here.

The files are all uncompressed TIFF files. Most graphics programs can open these. If you are not able to open them, let me know and I can convert them to JPG files. I did TIFF files because some are a little hard to read and I wanted to preserve all details. This happens when scanning microfilm copies.

Hi Buzz, I added her maiden name. I knew it and had just not gotten to it yet. Are you a Picken/McFadden descendant?

William Backer
Hi Buzz, I put together the biography of William using census records from Ancestry; birth, marriage, and death records from Familysearch; and a few newspaper articles from Newspaperarchive.com. I prepare a lot of these biographies (I edit the Grand Traverse Area Genealogical Society's newsletter). Homer

George W Piersol
Hello,
I am unable to find a listing in Forest Cemetery for George W Piersol 1898-1953. I have also tried various spellings of the last name. I see you entered him and also a plot and space #. Do you know for sure he is buried in Forest Cemetery and if so please tell me the "section" he is buried in so I can see if I can find him.
Every section of Forest Cemetery has a plot and space number so just those 2 things give me very little to go on and Forest Cemetey is huge.
Thanks,
Sharon
