Charles Downer
Downer Family History
Hi I am a Downer from Pittsburgh. I am related to Robert Edwin and I am interested in any information especially about the sword of Rinaldo. My phone number is 412-531-0617 please give me a call if you can. In my family history I go back to Joesph Downer and his son George Washington was my grandfather so James Cook would be my uncle. James sons and daughters would be my cousins. I think you are related to me to, let me know!-Bud Downer

RE: Downers
Yes I do remember the old Phoenix hotel. I have been it when it actually was operating, but I think at that time (maybe in the late '50s), it was mostly a place where people rented a room long term rather than for overnight stays. I was born in '51 and left the area in 1970, but moved back and went to work for Lewis Grocer Co. in 1973. Then moved away again in '78 never to return again (except to visit). I really miss growing up there. It was a magical place (in my mind), but short on economic opportunities for my parents. They moved to Louisiana in 1970. I'm glad that I still know people there who I can stay with when I go up there. Can't wait to go back and catalogue the Moorhead Cemetery.

RE: Downers of Moorhead
Yes, I really want to completely photo and index all of the Moorhead Cemetery the next time that I'm up. I did quite a few this time, but I also needed to go to Indianola City Cem for about 20 volunteer photo requests over there so I had to stop. Perhaps next spring, I will completely cover the entire cemetery. Anytime I do a volunteer photo and there are family members close by, it just makes sense to snap those even though someone else may have already photographed them and posted them on Find A Grave. You know my mother was a beautician in Moorhead for years and I'd be surprised if she didn't fix some of your relatives' hair over the years. I remember the name "Downer" and hearing it many times but can't put any faces with names (senility, I guess). But of course, my mother (Virginia Church Hughes) knew most everybody since she fixed most everybody's hair. Take care.

Randall Lee Vining
Seems Randall Lee Vining is father to Flora Elizabeth Vining who gave birth to my father Adrian Gordon Lee. I can't seem to find anything on Flora Lee on the location of her grave. Do you think you could help me? She passed away in East Carroll Parrish Louisiana. Her father Randall Lee Vining is listed and her name is listed as a child but no further information.
Many thanks for your help on this matter.

RE: Hayden & Brown
It is very alright that you have it. I am glad that you are family and you deserve to manage it. She was only a friend and neighbor to us. I manage most of Union Cemetery, because we went to church there most of our lives and were married there. We know most of the people buried there. We only live about a mile from the cemetery. Really, I am OK with you having her memorial. Thanks for the offer. Take Care!

I have transferred memorials to you. These people were very special people to our family. Mrs. Effie was a very sweet lady. I didn't know Mrs. Brown, but knew her children, Mr. J. F. and my inlaws were very close. Mrs. Lucille was a dear friend to us. She and Mr. Verbon were Special. My husband grew up with Jerald, We knew Mr. Clifton and his first wife Erlene and also his second wife Mrs. Velma Lee, was our neighbor before she married Mr. Clifton. Also Mrs. Helen, she was so sweet and "she was a laugh a million" to be around. She and my husbands cousin Mattye were best friends. They are all having a time together in heaven today. Take good care of their memorials!!!!
God Bless You, Betty
