Hi Ann,

I made the correction to John Wesley Yarbrough Sr. I also added his wife. You have the photo of the son on the fathers memorial. Wanted to let you know. Thanks for your help.

Correction to earlier email

The church is on the right hand side of the road. I earlier said that it was on the left.

There is an old AME church on the left hand side about .5 miles before Mt. Vernon Church. I was going to use that as a landmark in my earlier email so that's where I got off track.

Make sure that you have at least a 1/4 tank of gas when you leave McCormick because there the nearest gas station is in Saluda and you can easily get sidetracked. If you need any help don't hesitate to give me a call on my cell, the number is 864.275.9707.

RE: Auerlia Mayson

My advice for you is first of all acquire a GPS and use that because this place is out in the middle of nowhere. But I'm very familiar with the area so I'll give you directions that hopefully will get you there.

From McCormick (28&378) you will head north on 378 towards Saluda for 10.7 miles until you come to the highway 67. Turn left on 67 and go 2.7 miles until you see Mt. Vernon Rd. on the right (if you go to far you will cross over Turkey Creek). I didn't measure the mileage but the church is about 2-4 miles on the left hand side. It's easy to miss since it's just an old wooden building with no parking lot or drive way but you should find it OK. Mt. Veronon Rd. is only about 5 miles long before you run into Hwy 178 so even if you miss it you won't have long to backtrack.

The graveyard is behind the church and is a very tranquil environment, you can feel the history of the area when you're there. I live in Greenwood so if you need some advice for lodging or restaurants let me know.

Mike Clarke
