I don't know how to answer your question about half-siblings. First because you did not use the "Edit" button so I could look at the page. There are many Bruce's. Please explain where you got the info and memorial numbers. Thanks.

RE: Marjorie Dennis Walker
Thanks Kathryn. Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I rarely request transfers, since my main interest is in connecting to family and adding correct information, but I'll take good care of Marjorie's

RE: Alonzo W. Vernon Memorial
Sometimes the old ways are the best ways and we couldn't see where it hurt either. But, guess some people went too far with it (chalk), anyway, I had been looking for a gr aunt and had checked everywhere I could think of in all of the usual places. Census reports always had her ending up in the same location and that was that. About two months ago my friend and I walked a cemetery about 35 miles north of us, we did it once and then decided to go back again and finish it. Well, the second time we found my gr aunt buried there. She had married and moved and the records confirmed that it was her. So neat!! And, it was so unexpected! Have a great day!

RE: Alonzo W. Vernon Memorial
That is frowned upon now. Although my friend and I have seen stones that have been chalked and she got a nasty email about one she took a photo of (the person had not put the photo on of the stone)and she wasn't the one who had chalked the stone. It does bring the details out on some though! Another way is to place a piece of paper on top and do a pencil rub of the stone. Best to check with the cemetery first to see if it is ok to do. Happy that I was able to help you find a relative.

Holliday & Orr Children at Coulterville Cemetery
Hey Kathryn - Steph, here. The other day I was struck by a thought and stopped at the cemetery this evening and guess what I found!?!? All five of the children of Wm and Elizabeth Holliday are buried in the same plot with them - but the names are listed on the back of the stone and I missed it! I have posted photos of front and back of the marker on each of the children's memorials if you wish to take a look. Also made up a picture showing outline of the Orr plot for their children. Happy Autumn! Steph

McNabney Transfers
Thank you for transferring these two memorials to me. My wife and I just received a box of materials that were her great-grandmother's. We have original doc's dating back as far as 1862! We are stunned - but thrilled to have so much info to work with.
Thanks again,
Cary C.

RE: Coulter
as for the Kleinschmidt store in Oakdale very interesting, I know nothing about it. I have run into a brick wall on the Kleinschmidt side of the family, Maybe this could open some research avenues.
please pass on my email address to them and hopefully something good may come out of it.
Thank You

Capt. Samuel Leiper Coulter is the great grand uncle of Richard Kleinschmidt. The Coulter's you maintain would fit right in. I would be Pleased if you would transfer them to me. I also have requested Samuel's Memorial with no results.

RE: Thank you
Great info! I've always wondered about the stones with no ending date.... I located one on family search where the guy had ended up in a Missouri prison after he buried his wife and then went on to marry again and is probably in a St Louis cemetery somewhere with his second family.... and that stone will sit in Coulterville forever with a big ole' question mark at the end! And - speaking of question marks - if you've ever spent any time in the Oakdale cemetery, have you noticed the headstone that is there for a couple (still living, I think) that has the last name Kennedy? - the question mark is engraved on the stone - any idea what's up with that?

RE: Thank you
Yes indeed, there is a "black section" of the cemetery, set well back across what used to be a creek or drainage ditch from the rest of the original section. I haven't done much in the wasy of trying to uncover stones there yet, but do have photos (courtesy of my daughter:) of all the visible stones in that section. Just heard a story the other day from a gentleman who grew up in Coulterville about the first black woman that was buried in the "white section" of the cemetery, evidently stirred up quite a bit of controversy at the time! I'm so glad times have changed and we can all rest together when the time comes. I'd better get back to work - let me know if other questions arise!

RE: Thank you
I know what you mean about getting something done! I've got so many projects started, and probably won't get to finish some of them until after I retire which is probably 20 years in the future yet! I was back out at the cemetery this evening and have located something that I found to be very interesting. Just behind the graves of Andrew/Jane and John/Elizabeth there is a lot which should contain 6 graves sites, no headstones, but I did find four cornerstones with the name ORR on each of them.... Could be where the missing children are. AND just about then it started to rain and my daughter started to whine about going home and it was getting dark.... so we'll go back and "poke around" in the ground some more real soon! I'll also be taking a break from this for a few days as I have looming deadlines at work and a vacation to get ready for soon!
