RE: Joshua Winans
It really is beautiful in its own way. And even though his name is not legible, the inscription proves it is his grave. I'm glad you like the photo.

You're welcome, Cousin Pam. Another cousin was looking for someone in the same spot, so it was an accidental "find." Looking forward to a cousinly get-together!

I don't own this memorial and I didn't add the photograph. I wish I could help and if I can get to the cemetery, I will take a better picture for you. I've written down the name and cemetery. I'm sorry.

I took this photo several years ago where I uploaded it to the Nebraska Gravestone Photo Project website. I also have Curtis E. Cook that I will upload to his memorial; born April 6, 1876, died March 15, 1928, They were together at Graceland so I got the impression they may be husband and wife. His grave has the Mason Square and Compass engraved and Edith has the 5-pointed star engraved for the Order of the Eastern Star.

RE: Re: Washington Ridley (d 1953) in Mt Hope
Good news! I sent a message to the woman who created the memorial and she showed me the source information which gave more details for his date of death. Using that, I was able to find him in Mt Hope's registry of Single Graves.

Not sure why he doesn't appear in the interment records (at least on the correct page), but there is a record of the purchase of his single grave. So, I will try to get out there and photograph it when I can (and the weather permits).

Okay...I sent a message to the creator of that memorial asking them what their source is for the claim that he is buried in Mt Hope.

Here is a copy of the problem report that I submitted on this photo request:

I have been unable to find Washington Ridley in the online Mt Hope Interment Records ( What is the evidence that he is buried in Mt Hope?

I'm going to try to get a better picture when I'm in Virginia around Christmas. This one is very hard to read but I think a different time of day will produce the shadows needed to read the info better. I also spray water on the headstone to darken the indentations and hopefully make it easier to read.

Yes, it is a shame, that is why I included a photo of her husbands stone along side hers. I am happy to help, the cemetery is a few miles from my house and I found the graves in less than a minute.
