Nicki,

Good morning,

I used to live in Chazy, NY for 17 years and did not know at the time I was related to all of the families in the North Country. I transferred the two request. Some of the children married into the LaClair family of mine.

RE: Transfer
Hi Nicki, Anna has been transferred. How are you related to Norman Dennis? I need to know because I've run into issues with others wanting an ownership that I gave to too distant a relative, and so they created duplicates.

You do know that you can suggest edits and add photos to memorials you don't manage, correct? It's not necessary to manage them all. I don't mind transferring, it just seems that you ask it a lot of the contributors :)

A lot of my ancestors' and relatives' memorials are owned by others!

Transfer done, along with one of her sons. Glad to hear from you again. Let me know if you want anyone else

Hot enough for you? Not exactly good weather to wander around cemeteries, unless you feel like staying there indefinitely.....

Extra photos
I added the extra photos...you'll have to adjust the order of them, how you'd like which ones to show on her memorial page. I didn't realize my car was in the background...I can retake those next time I go, if you'd like. Just let me know, Laurie

Nice job on her memorial page...did you want to link her to her parents in the Constable cemetery? Just use their Find A Grave numbers and enter them on her page right above the place for a transcription. I'll try to do that photo this week unless someone beats me to it, which is fine too, as long as you get it! Laurie

Malark's in Constable, NY
Hi, Nicki, I just uploaded the photos for the Malarks. Also there was another name on their gravestone, a son, I believe: David D. Malark 1916-2005. I added him on Find A Grave and just transferred him to you. Laurie

I'm glad you liked the photo. I can email those to you, however, if you post them anywhere I would appreciate credit given to me as the one who took them. I will try to get that done today. Take care, Laurie

Finally! I found your grandmother's stone, just by a fluke, looking over my shoulder on the way back to my car. Her maiden name is LaMora as seen on the stone and in her obituary. I believe her brother is buried here in Notre Dame as well, and perhaps her parents? I took the other photos that go with her stone: a ground marker for her husband Joseph and a military stone for a Harvey Rascoe (their son?). I will probably upload them and if you want them transferred to you, just let me know! Take care, Laurie

I'm sorry, Nicki, yes, I reread her obituary and it does state she is buried in Notre Dame. I reported there was a problem, mistakenly, and I think her photo request was removed. You will need to go to her memorial page and just click "request photo" and it will reappear on the request page for this cemetery. I will recheck the online transcription pages and see if Maude is listed...do you have her maiden name on her memorial page, as sometimes they are buried with their families? Again, I am sorry for this mess. Take care, Laurie

Hi, Nicki, I was just checking photo requests for some of the area cemeteries and I saw yours for Maude Rascoe. The request showed up in the Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone, NY; however, in your note, you state that she is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Chateaugay, NY. You may want to correct your request and her Memorial page? Just a friendly suggestion to correct any confusion. Take care, LLaPage

RE: Question
Enter them all separately, and you should probably include the info on the fire in the children's bio section. Once they're all entered, go to the father's memorial and get his number (on the bottom of the page). Then go to each of the children, click on "family links" (left of page), and enter the father's number in the space after "father". That will link them to their father. When you enter the number, the person attached to that number's name shows up on the page. Be sure to check it, if you enter a single digit wrong, you'll link everyone to the wrong person. Soemthing I've done many times. If you know where the mother is, get her number and link them to her too. You can also link the father & mother together.

You can link spouses to spouses and children to parents. You can't link siblings together, nor can you link parents to children {only children to parents]. If you have siblings, without their parents, you can add the info as text in the bio section. I also know how to link people together via HTML in the bio section. If you really get addicted to findagrave and want to know how, write me and I'll send you my handy dandy instructions on how to do so.

Links can only be done by the manager of the memorial page. If you want links done and you don't control the memorial, write to the person who manages it, give the names, numbers and relationships of everyone you want linked, and say please. Most people do links. Others don't. I actually normally just transfer the memorial to the family member, but some people don't.

Feel free to write me any time.

RE: Valhos transfers
Transferred Irene and her brother. If you find more, just let me know. We've got a huge blizzard on it's way (they've named it Nemo, so we're either going to be eaten by a giant squid or flushed down a sewer, neither of which sounds pleasant), so I assume my internet will be out for weeks. If you find more, just request the transfer. If I don't transfer quickly, just assume my internet is out, and I'll do it when I've fought off the giant squid. Wish I lived in Florida right now...

Valhos transfers
I transferred the Valhos memorials to you. Now that you manage them, you can edit/add/delete any of the biographical information on the page (click on the "edit bio" link on the left on the memorial page). You can also link people to their spouses or parents (click on "edit" next to the words "family links" on the left. Unfortunately, you can't link parents to children, only children to parents, so if someone else manages the children's pages, you have to write them and ask them to do the linking. If you write using the "edit" tab in the upper right, findagrave sends the message and includes the person's name and memorial number so you don't have to. Just click on the upper right "edit" tab, then click on "suggest a correction". Most people do links right away, some people never do, which can be frustrating.

You can also edit the birth and death dates, add birth and death locations by clicking on "edit dates" near the left top of the page. The birth/death locations have to be picked from a drop-down list, so periodically a small town or no-longer-existing place isn't on the list. But you can still add the country, state, and county.

You can add up to 5 photographs. I think the size limit is now up to 3 mb per picture. When findagrave first started, it was 250 kb per picture, so some of the older pictures are a bit hard to read. The pictures are compressed. If you want a bigger version, right click on the picture and it will bring up a larger version.

Everything on findagrave is done with numbers, not names, so if you're writing to someone about a memorial, be sure to include both the person's name and number (from the bottom of the page). You should also include your member name and number (in your case, your member name is Nicki and your number is 48043275. The number is listed after your name on your member page. which you can get to by clicking on your member name). It makes it easier for the person you're writing to, and makes them more apt to do whatever you're asking them to do.

Let me know if you want anyone else. Meanwhile, welcome to findagrave. Beware, it can be very addictive.

RE: Nicholas N Valhos
Hi. Welcome to findagrave. To fix the duplicate, go to the one you created. Right above the cemetery photo is a link that says "delete". Click on that, it will ask you if you want to delete the memorial, say yes. Then go to the one I created (memorial 88103077), right below the cemetery picture is the link for "add a photo for this person." Click on that, and add your picture of his grave marker.

Let me know when you've deleted the dupe, and I'll transfer the memorial I created for Nicholas to you. Family should be with family. I'll also transfer any of his family members who's memorials I created. That will allow you to enter biographical and other information to the person's page, something that can only be done by the person who manages the memorial.

And yes, I live in NY, Dutchess county to be specific. About 20 minutes south of where Nicholas is buried. It's not exactly cemetery walking weather around here right now, but if and when spring ever arrives, I'll be glad to look for your family for you. There's a number of cemetery nuts around here, so the chances you'll get a photo is good. Once you've deleted the dupe and straightened out the memorial for Nicholas, go back to his memorial. Below the cemetery picture, next to "add a photo" is another link, "request a photo". Click on that and findagrave will send a photo request out to all the local volunteers. You'll probably have to wait until spring, but when the photo of his stone is added, you'll get an email from findagrave that your request has been fulfilled.

If you want photos of other relatives: if they have memorials all ready, go to their page and do the "request a photo" thing. If they don't have memorials, but you know where they're buried, go to that cemetery and create a memorial for them, then request a photo. If you have relatives without memorials and you don't know which cemetery they're in, send me a list of names and death dates if known, and I'll nose around and see if I can find them.

Also, whenever you write to someone about a memorial, you should include the person's name and memorial number (listed on the very bottom of the memorial page). It's easy to find Nicholas Valhos, but not so easy if the person's name is John Smith.

And again, welcome to findagrave
