I just found your email from a couple of weeks ago in my junk mail. That is happening lately. Jane told me also that she got another one after she sent other docs she found, and that you had gotten approval. That is great news. About time. But it has been over two years now for the research and scant records. And I am very very pleased right now, that he will get a marker.

I also wanted to tell you, another person last week asked for Sylvanus and said he was the son. So I left a message and asked "How old are you?" Haven't heard anything back yet. This one has been hard. LOL.

Great News.

RE: Cecil Mueller
Thank you for contacting me. My email is

I look forward to hearing from and learning about Cecil Mueller. Is it possible you might also have any information on her brother, Harry Douglass?

Thanks again,

Transfer to you
Hi Eric, I am transferring some memorials to you because you are directly descended from these folks while I am not, so it makes far more sense to give them to you.

RE: Major Sylvanus Curtiss
I am so glad another member of the family has stepped into the picture here to take over a branch that I am not directly related to. I have recommended to Lo Marie that the Major Sylvanus Curtiss memorial be transferred to you.

Also thank you for the sponsorships. That is so kind and generous of you. I intend to sponsor some more of our families too.

I too am planning to go to Michigan (we live in Wisconsin near Duluth) to visit the cemeteries. My requests for photos have not been fulfilled so it is time for me to go there in person.

it would be wonderful if you had a memorial erected for Sylvanus and Emily. I have been disturbed by the fact there was no memorial for them.

Sorry, if you thought my message was strong. This has been a most difficult memorial to handle. It seems with military, everyone is a great-great or something relative. Also, this site has rules and I follow them. Some people don't, but I have had to because of instances as I explained. It also states on my member page about the guidelines.

Now, with your help, if you have any personal info, relative links, I am glad to add them. It will only give me/you more clues to work together. We can make this a very wonderful rememberance for Major Curtiss. Down the road, I do not know what decisions will be made, whether to continue to maintain it or not. You would be on my list. I have spent many hours on his, as others also have. You have no idea the amount of time, that has went into his memorial. It was transferred to me, as the person saw the work I was doing in Monroe, and knew I would do what I could with it.

As you would guess, I am from an original family of Monroe, so I also have many ties to most older families in this area. Still working on that part, but have been sidetracked with the CWS research for our area.

Please send by the edit tab on Sylvanus' memorial, a SAC, with the information you want added. If you have relative links, of other memorials made on Find A Grave, send their memorial numbers at the bottom of their pages, and I will write HTML code, to connect from his bio, other than the ones of just parents. We all know he was in the Civil War, so I would like to hear something about his family, that I don't already know. I did find some other info, but haven't had the time to do anything with it yet.

Hope to work with you.

Welcome to Findagrave.

No transfer, this is an Out of Guidelines request. Great Great is not in guidelines. I have had more than a dozen great-great's requesting this memorial, and who do you be fair too. The memorial is still in research by the GSMC of Monroe, and it is not up to me at this time to transfer this memorial. Just be thankful, I spent the whole summer looking through old records, walking the cemeteries to find his burial location, and working with others on this. No one would have found him, without all the work I and others, put into this memorial. Everyone had given up on finding him. Also, found new relative lines for myself with this one. Transferred them away, before research was done, and now sorry for doing that too early to someone that was no closer related than myself. So you can see that you are not the only relative of Sylvanus from Monroe.

I will however try to help you with learning this site. I will send you step by step instructions to help you make a Virtual Cemetery to keep your families close where you can find them. I helped Karen learn them, as I see she left you a message.

I also refer you as a new member of 3 days to go to the right side of your member page and click on the fifth item down that says "Help with Find a Grave" and there you will find the rules and guidelines of this site. This is a grave registration site and not a family tree site. Use the many pay or free sites to record your family in those.

Just trying to be helpful to you, so you do not start out the wrong way, of coming here and requesting memorials, you have to contribute to this site, before asking for other's hard work. There are some instances that you will not get memorials transferred. If you would want to learn the Virtual Cemeteries, please let me know, as I am very willing to help with any questions you may have on how this grave registration site works. I don't mean to offend, but just to be helpful, so you get off to a good start.

Major Sylvanus Curtiss
I see that Lo Marie has sent a message re the burial site of Major Sylvanus Curtiss. We believe his burial site may have been located. The lot was purchased by a N. D. Curtis, my great, great grandfather. This lot is probably very close to the LaFountain lot where N. D. Curtis's wife Marion (my great, great grandmother) was buried. He was brother to your Major Sylvanus Curtiss and lived briefly with him in Monroe.

I am trying to keep the family together by linking them in the virtual cemetery I have created. If you click the virtual cemetery (near the bottom) at Ida's memorial, you will find it.

Since it appears you are far more directly related to Ida here than I am, would you like me to transfer the memorial to you?

Major Curtiss
Thank you for sponsoring Maj. Sylvanus Curitiss. I have added the info also. This is part of the Monroe County, Mi. GSMC project for the Civil War Anniversary coming up, and for each to be remembered.

At first, we could not confirm where he was buried, but we have now done so, have the plot, but just can't get pictures of it till the spring. We do know that there is no marker. His memorial is still in research, and I just added a picture I found of him. That was very exciting to be able to do that.

This is a wonderful grave registration site. So Welcome to Findagrave.
