Naves family
I have been researching the Naves families for many years. My branch originated in France (I'm told 15th century Italy, however, I only have oral history of this). My grandfather moved to Asturias, Spain as a child. In 1911 he and his wife moved to the US. They had 12 children and lived in Indiana, Kansas, Illinois, California and Nevada.

Another branch of the family left France much earlier. There are records in England and later in Nova Scotia, Canada. Members of this branch related to me that they moved to the US after the Revolution.

A Portuguese family by this name can be found in California in the 1800's

There are records with the "NAVES" spelling across the United States.

I'm interested in any links between the Naves, Nave and Neff genealogies. To date I have found none in my branch. Joni Naves-Neal

Neff/Nave/Hiestand Families
Hello. I am continuing what my mother started decades ago. Her mother's name was Mary Ellen Hiestand, daughter of Bishop Samuel E. Hiestand. I am continuing where my mother left off and have just now finished adding Daniel Hiestand and Christina Nave's children and spouses, that I am aware of. I tried to find the books by Daniel Bly on but they are no longer available. Is there any place I might be able to find any? Your help is most appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, the bio info that you provided has been entered. Thank you. Since this family is no relation to me, if you'd like a transfer of any of the Neff family, please let me know and I'd be happy to do so. Regards, Nadeen

Most of what I know is from the book written by Dorothy Neff Curry, "The descendants of William Neff who married Mary Corliss : January 23, 1665, Haverhill, Massachusetts," the book "A Genealogical Register of the Descendants of Thomas Flint" (also known as the "Flint Register") by John Flint & John Stone and "The History of Braintree, Vermont" by H. Royce Bass.

The Neff book is now on

According to the Neff book, they were cousins... not sure how.

The Braintree book says she married 2. Nathan Kenney, married 3 ? Cushman.

Vital Records show that she married Porter Cushman on 13 Nov 1859 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont, USA. She died 25 May 1878 also in Randolph.

Hi! I have a photo of an Emma Neff, around 1880ish, but I can't identify which of the many Emma Neffs she is. Can you help?

Bill, I have added the information you provided. I made minor changes so see if you agree with the wording. The date of muster was the same as the date of admittance at the hospital. Any correction?

New subject. My wife is a descendant of:
Christina Elizabeth Neff (b. 1777, Lancaster, Pa, d. 1844, Rural Retreat, Wythe County, VA) daughter of

Michael Neff (b. 1756, Lancaster Co., Pa, d. 1824, Rural Retreat) believed son of

John George Neff (b. abt 1729, Lancaster Co., d. 1773, Lancaster Co.)

Any connection to your Neff family?

I have transferred this memorial to your care. I have another Nave buried in Pierce Cemetery, Siam, Carter County. If this child of 8 belongs to your group's research, let me know. I will be honored to transfer her memorial to your group.

You are more than welcome for the transfers. I am thrilled to have them in excellent hands.

RE: Ann wife of Dr. Hans Heinrich Neff
Thank you for your response and question. Unfortunately, the only 'evidence' I have is an ancestry search site for her: Society.

'Stöckli" is new to me. Where does that come from?

The reason I made the suggestion for her maiden name is because her Find A Grave site has no maiden name shown. So, if it is 'Stöckli," please show it on her Find A Grave site.

They are my spouse's 7th Great-Grandparents so I want info to be correct. I'm sure you have much better sources than me as that is a main research name for you.

I just found your homepage so I will see what I can glean from it.

Delila Duffy
Luft Memorial
My memorial stands as is. Ladygrave at some point must have realized she had a memorial in the wrong cemetery & when alerted to her mistake, she moved it to the correct one. Ladygraver has many, many such mistakes involving the three cemetery's that look to the untrained eye, as one big cemetery. My memorials are all correct, and listed in the correct cemetery's. She also has a family stone belonging to a Mau family (my relatives)posted on her memorials. Why she has done this is a mystery to me. My relative donated part of his hay field to the city of YA for the purpose of a cemetery. Last name is Mau, locals just began referring to the cemetery as the 'Mau' cemetery. The cemetery was never called Mau.

Delila, This is a duplicate record to Find A Grave Memorial# 98314017 (Lady Graver Jan 2010) and should be removed. Working with a family member. Thank you Bill Neff

How interesting your page is. I went to Webster Elementary School, in Pontiac, Michigan, from Kindergarten 1954 to 6th grade 1961. During that time I had a Mr. & Mrs. Neff both in separate grades. I sure wish I knew their first names & what happened to them. They were wonderful teachers.

Thanks for your nice remarks. It pains me to think of the thousands of hours I invested in Find-a-Grave only to later feel that it's flaws are just too great to want to continue to participate in a large way. But the upside is other people will still benefit from the work. Hopefully they'll make some substantial overhauls at some point. I know there are better functional models and even better revenue-generation models they could create, in balance with providing a service.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I mis-spelled the name Neff and wrote Ness, but you are probably old-fashioned script writing that I have seen, the esses look almost exactly like effs. Anyway, I appreciate you trying.

Wife of Johan Wilhelm Houck, she was born 1798 in Hessen, Germany. Her son, John Houck, was born in Bavaria, Bayern, Germany, and came to the United States, date unknown. He died in Adams, Iowa in 1880. Any information you have on the Ness family in Germany would be helpful. Thank you.

Hello, I believe a dau was born in 1803 named Elizabeth Magdaline Grabill, she married a Joseph Schaeffer on 10 Apr 1826 in Shenandoah. The Schaeffer/Shaffer/Shaver line is the line I am researching. I am concerned that there is quite a distance in timeframe from George & Anna's marriage and the birth of their children, Samuel and Eliz, do you know why that is? thanks
