RE: Welcome to Find A Grave
I know there are about 2% of the memorials on Find A Grave have unknown burial sites.

Glad you are cleaning up your memorials.

Welcome to Find A Grave

As of today, I think you have about 165 unknown burial memorials out of the 226 you have made plus 50 memorials have been transferred to you.

RE: Welcome to Find A Grave
"I began setting up memorials for my family ancestors, not knowing where they all were" (buried).

Glad you found the grave sites of some of your ancestors' "unknown" memorials and glad the duplicates that were made have been deleted.

Just follow the guidelines. You need to know the burial site before making a memorial unless it is a recent death and you have 30 days to find it.

You may want to join the discussion forums as there others who will assist you on the "help" thread.

Welcome to Find A Grave
I just noticed that you were a new member and thought I would welcome you to Find A Grave.

This is a grave registration website. That the main purpose of the site....recording graves or as the guy that started the site said "the last resting place of the body". The purpose is not recording the name of dead people.

The guidelines for making a memorial and other questions you may have are located on the left side of any memorial under "help with Find A Grave".

Although we all record our genealogy on the memorials that have known burial sites, doing genealogy on the site causes a problem. When you don't know the lasting resting place of an ancestor, you really shouldn't make a memorial for the ancestor an "unknown burial site" memorial because that isn't recording a grave site. It is recording a dead person.

You have 30 days to find a grave site on a recent death. Read the guidelines for a better understanding.

Welcome to the site! I hope you enjoy it as a productive member.

RE: Helen Marie Riley Coook
When I found the location and noticed the dates and names did not match, I verified the location by looking up the location of the person two graves over who was in grave 4. Helen is in grave 2, so I know for sure that I had the correct location. Since the last names are the same, could there be a possibility that they were related and Helen isn't marked?

In any case, I deleted the photo.

Spirit Baker
John Borges
I have been taught by Find A Grave old timers to write the name as it is on the stone and his name of the stone is Borges, not Burgess, but I will add a 2nd last name so it will have both spellings. I have distant family and with 3 headstones, husband, wife and daughter and the last name is spelled 3 different ways.
I will fix the father. Thank you for finding that error.

You'll have to send the bio in an old-style SAC or e-mail, I can't copy & paste from the new-style SAC comment

Sorry but that was one of many I did a while back. Wish the photo was better. No notes for her but will go back to my Genealogy and see if I can pull something out.

I share your feeling. I have put many photos and memorials on Find A Grave. Some are just random - e.g. because they were near one I was asked to photograph. I often add babies and children who are not near family; they must not be forgotten as they were much loved at one time. I also add veterans many times as my way of honoring their service. However, some graves seem to reach out to me and for reasons I don't understand I feel compelled to add them. This has had some unexpected results - an email from Denmark from a great, great granddaughter who knew her ggrandfather had moved here in 1892 but didn't know he had two wives (He was widowed early). An email from Germany who didn't know her ancestor's brother was buried beside him here. One from a lady who had been looking for years for an aunt. It makes it all worthwhile. And, others have likewise helped me in my searches so I love to pay it forward. If you have more Hovey, or others, you are seeking, let me know.

Cathy, Do you want the four Hovey memorials I entered in Cedar Lawn - i.e. Frank Jr., Marjorie, Roban & Shirley? Cedar Lawn Cemetery is beside Walnut Hill and owned by the same people. Paul
