RE: Helton/Hilton Family
My husband is from Tifton, GA and most of his family were from Georgia. The Whitfield Co.,GA area and all around. His grandfather is Oswin whose father is Johnny whose father is Richard whose father is unknown whose father was a Cherokee Indian Chief from N.C. I can get back to the Richard but then hit a stumbling block but I really haven't done a lot of research on this line yet. His Grandfather Oswin, for some reason or another changed their last name to Hilton???? All the rest are Helton's. The same thing happened to me, my grandfather on my father's side changed the spelling of their last name.
I am very much interested in what you may have. Maybe we can piece the puzzle together!!! Thanks

Hi .I just happened to come across the name Whitlock that you are related to. I am related to Whitelock .. Catherine Whitelock was my grandmother. There were some family that migrated to Illinois and Utah...All in the same family even tho spelled with an "e".I'm sure you are familiar with the Whitlock ancestry on the internet. I am #57.I would like to communicate with you if you are interested and let me know which number you are.

Sorry, Gail for taking so long to get back with you, but I have been taken away from the project of posting grave in Find A Grave due to other job related duties, as a genealogy library assistant. I started positng the records for Illinois from The Saga of Soutern Illinois periodical when I realized that they were about to be weeded, after searching and seeing that a lot of the graves were not listed in Find A Grave, and not many libraries have the books.
On page 38 of the "Saga of Southern Illinois" the New Hope Cemetery chartered June 3, 1891 is located in Jefferson Co., four miles east of Route 37 on the Jefferson/Frankling Co. line, then one mile north. The paragraph mentions that the cemeter is now being called The Hope Cemetery. The records were not submitted by me but by Marie Greenwood before 1975. There is also a Death list for Hope Cemetery with other Willmore names, among other names. The two list cover over 15 pages. I will be glad to transfer anything to you. Thank you for your understanding.

Sorry. The memorial for John Willmore in New Hope Cemetery is not mine so I cannot delete it. I did add yours to Sarah's memorial per the "edit" request.

Transfers have been made. I forgot to say I am not related. My volunteer work with Find A Grave includes transferring obits from inventories of cemeteries found at the library to Find A Grave. I have done this for several years. All the info. in the inventories is placed in Find A Grave and sometimes it is not always 100% correct, but neither am I so I am ready to rectify mistakes pointed out by other members.

I would be happy to delete. Your memorial did not show up when I made a search. Sometimes that happens, No, I am not related. Most of my entries are now done through information obtained from the local library.

Thanks, it is just a bit confusing to see people duplicating listings. Maybe one of these days we will get them in better order. I'm just so glad to see everyone listing so many - esp. the older ones which are getting harder to read, and really help with searches.
Thanks again.

Gail, you'll have to talk to Dana Meeks about the mistakes or do an edit on those pages. I never added those memorials so I can't change them. When I was adding the pictures to all the memorials I saw many mistakes on the ones Dana did.

RE: Dock, Nancy & Della Helton
Found Dock and Nancy's headstone. They are next to Della. Dock's is an old sandstone headstone and not very legible, not sure how it will come across with the camera. They are amongst 310 pictures I took yesterday, so as soon as I weed thru those pictures I'll post them.

All that info you are requesting will be on the Helton Descendant Report I am going to send you.

Did a search of Welti Cemetery and Dock, Nancy and Della is listed as being buried there. I guess I never ran across their headstone or if I did didn't know they were related to Imogene at the time.

Imogene knew Della was buried there, but didn't think Dock and Nancy were.

RE: Dock, Nancy & Della Helton
Her name is Imogene Helton Satterfield, her father was Ulas and his father was Dock. She doesn't think Dock moved from Georgia to Alabama,

I've walked through Welti Cemetery several times and don't remember seeing a headstone for Dock. That doesn't mean he's not there. There are a lot of Helton's buried at Welti. Imogene has said most of Ulas's sisters is buried there.

I am taking pictures of every headstone in Welti Cemetery. Some of the real old ones are not legible unfortunately. I did about 270 headstones today, so, I've got about 500 to go.

I have done some of the research on the Helton's, I'll be happy to share what I have.

How you related to the Helton's? Dock was my mother-in-law's grandfather. I took about 200 pictures today of the headstones. I haven't seen Dock, Nancy and Della yet.

Thanks for all you have done. If you have time on your next visit to the IOOF Cemetery, and know where to look, photos of the gravestones for the following individuals would be appreciated. You can just add them to their respective memorials.
Samuel Louis Voight and his wife Mary
Charles Beecher Voight, their son.

Bessie (Voight) Herbert and her two daughter's Hilda Fay and Helen.

We live in California, so it is unlikely that we will have another chance to visit Du Quoin. My father was born there in 1900.
