Paul Edward Blakely at Ramer Baptist Cemetery
Doug: You're very welcome & thank you for the kind words. Every time I do a F.A.G. photo request I go ahead and try to photograph any veterans grave sites that I discover and Paul Blakely was one of those.
thx, Mike

Went to church at Antioch Church of Christ and Ramer High School with Jerry with your Dad and your Aunt Judy. Picked cotton with them and your Mom, Virginia.

Sharron Byrd
RE: Deming
Yes Doug I have heard of your family name through many of my cousins (Ray,Roberts,Herbek) and of course my grandmother Ida Byrd knew many in your family line. I discovered Sadie Blankenship-Deming because she was married to my other grandmother's Brother (James Bradford Deming). Then her siblings I found easily because her father had such an unusal name. I had information on Frances Evelyn Blankenship-Boyett but I did not have anything done yet on Virginia. So thanks so much for your contribution about her life. It is cool she was married to Charles Franklin Byrd.I did not know that. I am sure at some point I would have found out the information you shared with me but you sure saved me time by telling me now. You mentioned watching them play ROOK. I always played that with my family too and I never thought about Rook being someone's last name until I found some in my own family tree. It is amazing how many people you remember vaguely as you start working your family line. Thanks so much for messaging me and I appreciate all the help. Pass on anything you see I have missed because I truly do want to make sure I do the best job I can. After all it is much easier for us to compare notes and get it right now than someone else to try to figure it all out in fifty years.

RE: Ramer
yes, I know them all. My sister Patty & Judy were friends in school.
No I am not related to the Fortunes.
It is so terrible that a cemetery gets abandoned. Glad to see you are working so hard to preserve one.

Next time we go back we will check around the trees, thanks for the tip. We've been working on our family tree for almost 2 years & it's very exciting when we get a new lead to check out. :)

According to, Tennie was our 1st cousin 3x removed. Her mother Mary Ann McAlpin (our 2nd great grand aunt)was the daughter of Thomas J McAlpin & Agnes Sweat who were our 3rd great grandparents.

We were looking for Thomas J McAlpin & his wife Agnes Sweat, both said to be unmarked but we were glad to see the ones we found. We are planning to go back sometime in the near future. If you happen to know anything about either of these headstones I'd love you know.

RE: McAlpin Cemetery
Hi Doug,

You are very welcome. My sis & I went to McAlpin Cemetery looking for our McAlpin relatives. We decided to take pics of all the stones we could find while we were there as it's a small cemetery & hard to find. Our great grandmother was Eula May McAlpin, the daughter of Calvin McAlpin & Margaret Hannah. I would love to transfer the Fortunes, Blankenships & Hendersons to your care if you would like. Please let me know if you are interested. I am always happy to transfer.
