RE: Daisy Mathis
Hi Cheri, just wanted to let you know that you show up as one of my Ancestry DNA connections! It seems we are 4th cousins as we share the same 3rd great grandfather, Thomas McRady.

RE: Daisy Mathis
Okay, thanks Cheri. Just fore some more info on the two RL Mathis graves in the same cemetery born in the same year, I learned that the Robert Laroache Mathis who died in 1931 was the cousin of my 2nd great grandfather who died in 1927. The Robert Laroach who died in 1931 belonged to Daniel Mathis and Serena Vickers, while my 2nd great grandfather was the son of William Francis Mathis, who was Daniel Mathis' brother.

I have a Baker and a bunch of Hudson kinfolk
Would you happen to be kin to Eleanora A. "Ellen" Baker Thigpen - 84434187? I'm trying to find a trace of her family to connect her to, but I'm not sure where to begin. Ellen Baker Thigpen is my maternal GGGrandmother, and one of her daughters married a Tennant, which would be Mary or "Mamie" - 84369404. She is my GGrandmother. Then Mamie and Jim Tennant had my grandmother, Onita - 74099400, who in turned married my Grandfather John Ira Hudson. They were all from the Clarendon County area of S.C., which is only a little ways across the state from me here in Florence. So, I have some of the same names in my family that you do, and was wondering if we might be kin. I was told about your blog, and I've taken a look at it, and will have to come back to it later, but that's a pretty cool site you have going there. Kudos!

Martin Weybright
Sumter Cemetery
Hi, tanks for making the correction and adding the link that I requested. I have no connection to those involved. Most of the work I do in Sumter involves people I knew when I lived there a long time ago. Best wishes.

Michael & Allison Dillingham
Dargan Cemetery

Yesterday, I took pictures of the two remaining headstones. I'll try to post them tonight.

Cemetery Update: I talked with the home owner whose property encompasses the cemetery. Very nice older couple. The cemetery is deeded to them. They stated that when they bought the property (some years ago) they cleaned up the cemetery. It was heavily vandalized by teenagers from the house next door. Several years ago, one of the descendents (she could not remember the name) came by and asked if he could have the headstones of his family members. The owners granted that request.

I will get the memorials transferred to you. There are no pictures of the tombstones. I used the Sumter County Cemetery Survey book. When they did the original survey, there were 9 tombstones. When they redid the cemetery in 1992, they decided to use the original survey because there were only 2 stones left. Apparently 7 stones had been moved. You will notice on one of the memorials that there is a link to another memorial.

You're welcome.

No, I am not related. Just took advantage of some wonderful weather to take pictures of memorials without pictures. There are a lot of headstones in that cemetery without memorials. May be my next project.

You're welcome. It was odd, but I took that picture of Mildred Finfrock's marker by chance, the last time I was at that cemetery because it was close to another photo request.

He married into my Jones Family. Both of his wives were my 2nd Great Grand Aunt. So, I will transfer him to you and we can also share info. You might have something that I might not have. I will get all the transfers you have requested done tomorrow. It's good to talk to a distant cousin.

RE: James Earley Photo
Again, you're welcome. The person who created some of the memorials recorded a bunch of information. I wonder if he was a member of the church or came from it? You might try contacting him to see.

Will take Martins and any others nearby and also any Early/Earley markers that haven't been done. You are welcome to use any of my photos.

RE: James Earley Photo
You are welcome. Sometimes my file has photos I already have. Whenever I go to a cemetery for one family member, I try to find any others that have not already been added to a family member's memorial. Now you'll have to wait on three Martins, Matilda, William and Levi Carmi or C.A. I hope to do some "graving" this weekend. Bethesda is only 7 miles from us.
