RE: Blue Ridge Cemetery in Blount County
Not surprised. Between the logging and the tornado in the area in the last year or so the area must have been devastated despite the efforts of my friend who worked up the area a few years ago. Glad you were able to find it, no thanks to my tardy reply to your original message. I have never been to the Hipp Cemetery but as I understand it, it is farther back along the ridge. I have some pictures and documentation provided by the same guy who worked up Blue Ridge. Email me privately at bobwonda@hiwaay.net for more.

RE: Blue Ridge Cemetery in Blount County
Sir, Sorry for my tardy reply. To find the cemetery start at the intersection of Highways 278 and 231 at what they call Rainbow Crossing. Go East on 278 for about a mile. Just past Blake Road, look for where the metal side of the road barrier begins. If you stop there use to be an old farm road and fence. The cemetery is along the ridge about 200 to 300 yards further to the South. Hope this helps. A friend of mine cleaned off the cemetery a few years back and since then there has been extensive logging in the area. It has been about 15 years since I visited there. The landowner got all in a snit and threatened to call the Sheriff on me for poaching deer when I got back to the truck after visiting the site.

I believe your wife and my husband are 3rd cousins. His grandparents were Samuel Columbus and Mary Ann (Hipp) Hearn. I'd really like to exchange info. To send me an email, would you please go to our website and click on "Contact us by email"? A roundabout method, but it cuts down on spam.

Hoping to hear from you--L. Hearn

You might want to contact Robin Sterling (who posted the photo). I've tried to find it myself a few years ago, but it is on private land. I could not locate it either. I know my grandmother (who died in 1979) visited the cemetery and saw the graves in the mid-1970's, according to her handwritten genealogy notes from back then.

Thanks,

Hi...added the maiden name to Ellen, and also the photo of the headstone for her. Don't know why I missed putting it in before.
