RE: Dad's Picture
Ma'am, Thank you. My stomach was starting to get upset because I thought that maybe I offended your family by some unknown means.

RE: Dad's picture
Ma'am, I'm sorry about the picture. The department regulations require that every officer and above, regardless of rank, update their department I.D. Cards every 5 years without fail. This picture is the last updated I.D. photo that was taken of your father. (I am very lucky to be a retiree, and have what clout that I do, to even obtain these photo's at all.)

In as far as the badge, I can't answer that question at all. Every badge is assigned to that officer. You KEEP your badge unless you get promoted to Sergeant, and with that, you will turn in your officer badge when you receive your Sergeant's badge. The other time that you surrender your badge is when you go into the detective bureau. When you rotate out of the bureau you turn in your detective badge, and if your old badge has been issued to another officer, then you'll get another badge. There is a drawer of about 1,500 badges. The civilian clerk will just grab a badge because they don't want to empty the entire drawer out onto the floor and go through every badge for the officer because there too lazy. That is a civilian employee for you. I'm sorry that the picture is not of your liking and that the badge isn't the same badge number that you remember, or that your dad had. I don't know the circumstances behind this change.. I can only provide what the department gives me. I wish that i could do more but I can't. It was not my intent or design to hurt your feeling or disrespect your father at all. Every memorial that I create is done with the utmost respect and dignity to every officer.

Patn. Israel
Janet, I just finished his " department bio" and I'm just waiting for the photo I.D. section of the lab to send me his photo. I will keep you posted.

Patn. William J "Izzy" Israel, SLMPD
Ma'am, I just had Officer Israel's memorial tranferred to me. I am retired from the SLMPD as well.

In as little as a week of so I'll have his "bio" complete with an employee history and profile, as well as a dept. I.D. photo.
