I know the sexton and have walked the graveyard with him. They really don't know where the old graves are located, with a few marked exception. The cemetery is near where I live, where I shop, and even where I bike ride. the sexton tries very hard. but the pre-civil war burial records are terrible.

Mary and Clancy Dempster - Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, CA
Hiya!

I uploaded two photos of each of their memorials. The inscription of the Dempster name is done on a retaining wall. Many of the families that had money and/or many stones for the family had this engraved along the wall close to their stones. HOWEVER, there are no longer any visible stones for Mary or her husband. Only this inscription remains. It could be that they had no stones, or the stones were vandalized, or the stones were stolen over time. You can see in the one photo that the open area to the left (there is a little more open area on the other side of the photo) where I believe they lay.

They happen to be buried about 20 feet away from my childhood friend.

I am not a relative. I was taking a photo in the grave yard for someone else and took this one and many others as well. I transfered it over to you. Tia

RE: Barbara Jean Ross
This is the best part of adding these memorials, people who want them, such as yourself, can find them here on Find A Grave. This is exactly why I find it rewarding to do this work. It is fun, interesting, exciting and rewarding. Glad to have been able to help. Dean

I'm fine with the error. Through the years and after reading a zillion death certs; I've seen how the informant makes errors. One is not thinking very clearly; having just lost a loved one.

As for George, I knew he had died in New Mexico. Looking at my sources, it came from the New Mexico Death Index. I know the death dates of a lot of our Chitticks but refuse to enter them as {shudder] "disposition unknown". Finding the burial location is just part of the "hunt" and adds to my hobby. So, while I knew when and where he died, just didn't know where he was buried. Fortunately, there are people who add to Find A Grave using various cemetery transcriptions from a variety of sources. I just check about once a month or so to see if any "new" Chitticks pop up. It was great to see George show up. Also great that the contributor did an out of guidelines transfer for me. I wrote up a partial bio on him.

George was truly a collaborative effort from several of us--contributors:
Someone listed him from a transcript.
Someone identified him and wrote a bio.
Someone requested a photo.
Someone fulfilled the photo request.

Very cool!

Hope all is well.

Our Chitticks
Hi Sandra,
Yes, we are both from the same line. William Chittick is a great, great, great grandfather to both of us. My line is from his first wife and your line is from his second wife. My grandfather used to hop on a train and visit the William and George Chittick families in Colorado and New Mexico.

It is nice to meet you. :)

Fern Simpson photo request
I went to the cemetery today and located Fred and Fern's memorial. The marker had her name spelled Fren. They did some filling and recut the "E and R" but it still looks odd. I can photo shop the marker to look a lot better. You will not be able to tell it was ever wrong, or I can post it as it is. I'll do which ever you want, even post both and then delete the one you don't like. Just let me know.

David and Ruth Goodard
Hi Sandi - I see that you made a photo request for David Goodard. As I mentioned previously, neither he nor Ruth Goodard (all in the same plot with Edith Snider) have a headstone. I asked the person who manages these memorials to add a note about this, which has been done for David but not yet for Ruth. The next time I'm in this cemetery, which will be soon, I will get a photo for you of the gravesite with no headstone, for both David and Ruth. Take care, Amy
