RE: Holcomb Jones Cemetery
James Andrew Holcomb is my grandfather, George Washington's brother! So, YES! We are related! I love meeting new relatives. My Mom was Rosetta, "Rosie" one of James and Dovie's twins. The little short preacher lady.
Thanks again for the pictures!!

Saphronia (Counts) Lanham/Rawson
Thank you for the photo of Saphronia and Charley's headstone and for the suggestion of the correct spelling of Saphronia's name. All my records to reflect this spelling. Saphronia, after returning to West Virginia from Ohio bought five and one-half (5-1/2) acres of land where her home and the cemetery (Lee's or Rawson/Matheney) was located. The location as I have it in my records was in Clay County up on Camp Creek near Bomount or Procious. The house was a small rough frame house hat was wall papered with newspaper. They had no running water or electricity in the house and had to carry water from a spring down in a hollow. After Charlie/Charley died (27 September 1940) Froni moved down to Elk Hills and lived in Viola Mae Rawson Parish's house/garage. Froni deeded her property over to Viola (her niece). Viola was married to Lawrence Matheney. Hope this is not too confusing.

RE: Lee's Cemetery
I would love for you to add photos to the memorials I created if you would. I think I did tell you that the house of Grandma Rawson was on the right side of the road as you went up the mountain and the cemetery was at the top on the left hand side of the road. Are you related to my g-grandmother, etc.?

RE: Lee's Cemetery
I have heard this cemetery referred to as the Matheny/Rawson Cemetery also; however, I have the funeral home card/record for the funeral/burial of my great-grandmother Saphrona Elija "Fronie" (Counts) Lanham/Rawson and it is listed as Lee's Cemetery, Procious, Clay County, West Virginia. When I was quite young, g-grandma Rawson passed away in 1946 (I was nine at the time). I visited the cemetery and all I can remember about it was it was (to me) on top of a mountain and there didn't seem to be many markers/headstones at that time. Sadly, of course, no one is alive today to prove or disprove this burial place as Lee's. I do know that at one time, my g-grandmother Rawson lived on the same road up that same "mountain". Her house was on the right side with a drop down the side of the "mountain" and the cemetery was further up the roadway on the left side of the road. At this time without searching further into my records this is all I can offer to you.

RE: Ralph Smith
Did you find Helen? I'm wondering if there's another Smith Family Cemetery? I mean, in reality, her father could have been elderly when she was born.

Can't help anymore than that. What about her mother?

RE: Ralph Smith
I entered a memorial for Helen Smith Bird, which her obit states she was laid in the Smith Family Cemetery in Clendenin. So since she was a 'Smith' I also entered memorial for her parents; thinking they must be here also. Helen was born in 1917, so I figure her parents must be born in the late 1800s. That's all I've got for you...

I don't think the Smith Cemetery at Corton was not created by me:-)

RE: Smith Cemetery
I do not think I created that cemetery. I added a memorial in Jan 21,2014.

There are three memorials in Find A Grave with this cemetary location.

1- Emma Smith Ashley added by: Created by: reggie ashley watson
Record added: Apr 08, 2013
Find A Grave Memorial# 108028655

2-Rice M Ashley added by: Created by: Hall96
Record added: Mar 17, 2014
Find A Grave Memorial# 126494360

3-Garland Ikey Smith added by me-Created by: John Shamblin
Record added: Jan 21, 2014
Find A Grave Memorial# 123835989

In looking at the dates when each was added, is it possible that Reggie Ashley created the cemetary. If so, she would be the one to do the correction. I do not think I have the authority to change.

I changed the cemetery to Smith-Little Blue Rd. one. Thanks for the head's up!

The headstone picture that you have posted on memorial # 105357355 {Gordon Osborne} is the wrong one for this memorial. GORDEN LEE OSBORNE {your picture} was born 2/23/1910 in Fola to John Thomas and Martha Elizabeth {Moore} Osborne.

RE: Virgie Nichols
Except for the death year, that is what I have found as well. From her obit, it appears that she never had her own kids. Green was still around when she died. Actually all the kids appear to have been his 2nd wife, Ona Pritt.

RE: Virgie Nichols
Thanks for looking. It saves me a trip to the archives (from a few states over) to figure out the proper date. I hope you got lots of photos - most of the cemetery seems to be related to me.

THe newspaper obit was in the Sunday Gazette-Mail on 30 Nov 1975.

Virgie Nichols
I found Virgie Nichols, wife of Green Nichols, obit in the 1975 CHarleston newspaper.
DOes her tombstone read 1974? or is there another source?

Thank you for your time.

RE: Mary Eloise Barker
Hall 96, I have wanted to put Martha on that cemetery before and just never did. I didn't really know how.
I just wrote to findagrave and ask them to change my entry to Mullins (Martha) and combine the two cemeteries. I hope they can do that.

RE: Cemetery Confusion
Hi And Merry Christmas: The best way to combine the two cemeteries, is to contact I believe they might have a form or link to send information concerning cemeteries with two different names. This is found under frequently ask questions, on the front page of the website. I have copied and pasted the info for you.
There's a cemetery that has both an official name and a commonly used name. How should it be listed?
The cemetery should be listed by its official name. Use the cemetery fix/update forum to submit cemetery updates or non-members use An AKA(s) for that cemetery will be added to the name field.
I want you to have management of your great aunts memorial, so I am transferring the memorial to you. Hope you have a blessed and safe holiday season.
