|Scout||RE: Oak Hill Cemetery Grand Rapids Michigan|
I live in Holland, Mi but know Oakhill well. I searched a long time for my gr grandparents X4. I knew they were in GR somewhere , but no record. I found that their son was buried there, we found his grave, and next to him were my gr grandparents x4.

|Jay Kruizenga||Dina Baker|
Jim, I just got off phone with Kendra, the Grand Rapids City Cemetery professional. While the old Valley City Cemetery index shows a Dina Baker to be buried there, the actual cemetery records do not have any record of her.
This could be due to an early 20th century fire that destroyed many old records. She pulled up ownership records in hopes of finding Dina that way, but no such luck.
I know from experience that there are MANY old stones in the southern portion of Oak Hill (the old Valley City cemetery) that are NOT in the Grand Rapids index. I have been in process of locating these forgotten souls and loading them to Find-a-Grave.
It is sad but understandable that the Grand Rapids City has no record of these people. They are doing everything in their power to locate every grave and make official record of it.
And I intend to help. If in my daily ventures through Oak Hill I should stumble upon a grave for Dina Baker... I will certainly let you know.

|Jay Kruizenga||Diana Baker|
Regarding the grave photo for Diana Baker, I searched the Oakhill Cemetery index and the only spelling similar to Diana is...
Dina Mindehout Baker 1843-1903
Could this be the same person?
Other than that, there is not a Diana Baker at Oakhill.

You are welcome. I would say the death certificate would be accurate, and the stone a mistake. I have seen it before.

My pleasure! I don't know if I included them with yours but I try to include GPS Coordinates. This way it takes you right to the head stone.

|Chris Penning||RE: Allens, Zwemers, Minderhouts|
Hi Jim, I just posted photos for two of the Minderhout requests. Unfortunately, there are no stones, but I took photos showing the spots where they are supposed to be buried. The last request, for the other child who is actually buried in PH1-PK-00000-417, cannot really be fulfilled. PK stands for public kerkhof, or churchyard, and nobody really knows the arrangement of burials in this section. There are only 22 stones for almost 800 burials, and the Minderhout child does not have a stone.
Did you realize there is a third Minderhout child burial in Pilgrim Home? If you check the F.A.G. listings it is under "Menderhout", and the child is supposed to be buried in the same grave as the other child in 'OT'.

Hi Jim, my claims on three of your Minderhout graves in Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Holland, MI are about to run out. I visited the cemetery today and looked around but could not find any stones. They are buried in the old part and there are many areas with no stones. I'll try harder tomorrow, but don't expect to find anything.

|Jim Carnathan||RE: Lucy and J H McElroy, Brenda McElroy|
Yes Brenda was buried in a totally different section of the cemetery and was just a baby by the looks of the marker but there is no birth date in the records. Lucy and J H are both in the mausoleum. I'm glad you like the photos I have just learned how to take pics in low light or no light and am glad they turned out the way they did.

Beautiful day here in MI!

The death certificates online stop at 1920, but there is a Michigan death & burial database. I'll see what I can come up with there.
