Thalke Janssen Cassens 104052698
Hi Marilyn,

I hope you can help me solve a puzzle.

Do you have access to burial records or the actual stone for Thalke Janssen Cassens in the Meints Family Cemetery in Adams County, Illinois? I need to know her birth and death dates, and also names and dates for her parents, first husband, and their children. Is Janssen her maiden or first married name? Who is she buried next to? How is she related to the Meints family?

The Thalke Janssen I am seeking was a widow with children when she married Jacob Cassens in Adams County, IL in 1874. They had three children together in Adams County, the last was born in 1877. Jacob continued to raise his step-children with their three children after Thalke died.

In 1800 Jacob married widow Margret Grace/Gretje Avens Atkins. Her children (including my great-grandmother) were added to the mix. Margret and Jacob Cassens had three more daughters before moving to Hamilton County, Iowa.

It gets confusing with four marriages and four families of children being raised together.

I certainly hope that you, or someone else who reads this can help solve this puzzle. Thank you for your help!

Robert Ridenhower
Hi Marilyn,

Was out taking photos in the Beach Cemetery today and took a photo of the grave marker for Robert. On the date of death you have 1972, the marker has 1973 so I looked it up on the ND Vital Statistics and it shows 1973 as year of death. Just thought I'd let you know.

Best wishes,
High Plains :)

Jurgen Harms Franzen and Gesche Janßen Frerichs
Dear Marilyn,

Just a note to let you know that you need to make one small correction in your biographical notes for these people. Jürgen Harms Franzen and Gesche Janßen Frerichs only had two spouses each. They were both one another's second spouses -- not third as you have indicated in the write-up.

Gesche Frerichs was first married to Jan Dirks Block who died in Adams County, Illinois between 1856 and 1863. The exact year of his death and the location of his grave is not presently known. He certainly had passed away before June 1863, however, since his surviving widow then married Jürgen Harms Franzen in Adams County, Illinois, where both families had resided.

Jürgen was married first to a woman whose name was Antje Beekmann. Once she died, he married my grandmother, Gesche Frerichs. They were married on 14 June 1863 in Adams County, Illinois.

Three of the Franzen children married their Block step-siblings, and the families of Jürgen Harms Franzen and Gesche Janßen Frerichs became forever entwined.

I am directly descended from Gesche Frerichs Block.

You have done a great job.

All the best,

Lars Kristiansen

I have sent you some requests to delete duplicates of the Metcalf's that have been posted in the wrong cemetery. It appears you have family information on the Metcalf's, so you may want to consider asking for the transfers of those with photos of the headstones. Best of luck, Joanne

Meints Cemetery--Wubke Buhr Baumann
Marilyn--Wubke Garrelts Buhr Baumann is my 3rd great grandmother. She and her husband Reiner Baumann came to the US in Sep. 1865 and he married his second wife in Jan. 1867 so I think her death year was 1866 not 1864. Have not been able to verify date however. Fran Zedney

Great that you entered names for the Meints cemetery. In 2012 I discovered by accident that Anna Leenerts Schlueter had been buried in the Meints cemetery. She was a great great aunt of my father's. Three of her children are buried in the Leenerts cemetery. Anna's first husband was a Meints and is buried in the Meints cemetery. Do any of the tombstones still exist?
Carol Leenerts Rossel,
