|Greg Farino||Maxey Family|
For the past 7 years I have been doing research on the Maxey family. I am not related to the family in any way. My interest started when I
visited the historic home of Confederate Major General Samuel Bell Maxey in Paris, Lamar County, Texas. I have written several small
articles about Samuel which have appeared in his historic homes newsletter.
Samuel was born in Tompkinsville, Monroe County,
Kentucky in 1825. While doing research on him I ventured into his families history. I learned that his grandfather, William Maxey (1759-1833) was a patriot soldier in the Revolutionary War. When I visited Tompkinsville in 2012 and went to the cemetery William is buried in, I learned that he had not been honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution or the Sons of the American Revolution. I contacted the DAR headquarters in Washington D.C. to see if he was listed in their records and learned that he was. I also found out that over XX period of time 23 women were able to prove descendency to William and were permitted to become members. The problem is the none of
them has/had done anything to honor William. As a 22 year retired U.S. Army veteran, I find this unacceptable. I contacted a local chapter of
the DAR in Glasgow, Kentucky and tried to get them to honor William. They said no at first because none of the members of their chapter as
related. I kept at and was finally told that they would. I kept in contact with them and was told via email on several occasions that they
were working on it. I was than told they would honor William in 2013. It didn't happen. Than I was told it would be in 2014. A few weeks ago I received an email from the chapter regent and was told that they were not going to honor him at all but, gave no explanation as to why.
When I saw that you had left virtual flowers for E.J. Maxey (1827-1897) wife of R.J. Maxey, I decided to try and contact you to ask if you were a member of the DAR and if you would be willing to help me get William the recognition he deserves.?

They are not buried in the Enid Cemetery. They are in the Memorial Park Cemetery. I have sent an edit to the memorial owners requesting the memorials be moved. I have the headstone pics to post once they are.

forest park cemetery does not give information to volunteers. in order to get locations you have to call the cemetery and request the data and then post it on find a grave. that's is why there are so many unfulfilled requests

|TLH||Maxey photo requests|
Hi, the volunteers would be happy to fill your photo request however we will need a burial location to do so. Can you please contact Laurel Land and get a burial location for your request. The number is 214 371 1336 or to email them, the link is: http://www.laurellanddallas.com/home/contact_us.html
They are good about responding to the email request! There are over 31 photo requests currently and the volunteers cannot ask for that many locations to fill requests. With a location, your request will get filled pretty quickly. Thanks for your help

The pictures are taken, edited, cropped and posted. I was so impressed when I got to their graves. Someone had taken the time to prepare their headstone for the Christmas season. They looked so pretty. Next to them is Catherine M. Hair. I believe this to be Catherine M. Ziegler Hair, Dorothy's mother. Her headstone photo is also posted. I do not know where at this time. Since I am researching each individual in this cemetery, I will run across him if he is here. It is so helpful when obituaries are posted as there are many clues to other family members. Wishing you a blessed and happy Christmas season and a blessed whole new year in 2014.

I am to take the photos of the Maxey's headstone(s). Sorry about the weather, but it may be yet a few days before I can get to the cemetery to take them. Just as soon as it is safe to drive, I will get them taken, edited, cropped and posted. Thanks.
