Samuel Houston (Find A Grave Memorial# 7239104

Most all the info that I have comes from Houston's daughter Lucy Gay. I met her about 20 years ago on a visit.

Next, my great grandmother, Emily Jane Derrick Givens. Burial info should be

James Larkin Cooks father in law was a Wilson Peeler, I am wondering if it is the same Wilson Peeler that is my new step-2nd great grandfather...

Cook Connection
Hi - So sorry for the delay in responding, I have been so busy with my grandfather in the hospital and I have gotten so far behind!

I am so excited to have found you. First, I want to say how much I like your blogspot, I have been having fun looking it.

I have some questions, I am just going to address them as I come to them while I am on your site.

First, there is an article about JAW Cook that you have posted, what is that from? I notice it says his parents are Leonard and Netta Carolina Cardin. Do you know anything about them? I have James & Martha and another connection, George Wilson does as well. However, I did not site my source in my records, so I could be wrong. Anyway, I think that they may be Find A Grave Memorial# 43777567 and Find A Grave Memorial# 43777718.

Another reason that I asked about the article is that I would like to read more, it ends on my 2nd great grandmother, Mary Ann Cook Derrick, I was curious about what it said about her.

Do you have JAW Cook Confederate Veteran application, I do have it somewhere and I will share with you, if you do not have. Turns out he was born in Meck. Co., N.C. where I live.

Do you know where JAW Cook is buried and his 2nd wife Eri Bowers Holcomb. My records show Eleazer, but his grave cannot be found.

I do not know anything else about Eri, parents, other marriages, etc.

BIG Question: Mary Ann Cook Derrick (my 2nd great grandmother), I do not know anything about Wilson D. Peeler (I think he is Find A Grave Memorial# 69409202). I do not know anything about this marriage (not that it didn't happen - I just know very little about her). Your records give both her marriages that same wedding date (which is the date I have to Gus), is he maybe her 2nd husband, her children were born in 1880's with Derrick has name. Anyway, I appreciate any info you have on this!

Holy cow - I just got to the pic of my 2nd great grandmother - (and Wilson Peeler) - I have NEVER seen a photo of her. excited. Can you tell I am writing this as I go. Is there anyway that I can get a copy of happy to have found it!

I went back to looking at the picture of her, I think it answers my question due to the ages of the couple. It looks like she married him after Gus died in 1891. Maybe that is why I am having trouble with her grave, I did not know about Peeler!

I know this is a lot but it was the questions that I came up, I appreciate your help!!
your cousin,
Melanie Wynter
