White Pigeon Cemetery Map
Hi Karen,
I added a label below the Memorial Park Addition label showing which way the Row numbers go. I hope this is what you wanted. I do not know the row numbering scheme for the rest of the cemetery, so I can't try to update the whole map.
The new map I added says it can't yet be seen by other users because it is currently pending approval by Find A Grave. I don't know how long it takes them to decide that it is OK to post.
Let me know if the new map is what you wanted.
Shannon

Karen, thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. I am a collector of Civil War relics and have several that belonged to Daniel Saunter. Adding your photo to the grouping is "priceless".

Photo request
Karen,

Your message didn't include a link to the memorial that I requested a picture for and I've requested several lately. In general, I only request pictures for relatives so I think the answer to your question is yes, I'm related. If you can send me a memorial number or link, I'll tell you how I'm related.

Karen:

Please do . . . our efforts should all be about sharing. I have a general release on my front page. I was visiting Indiana from California, researching family records; and I always photograph additional graves, hoping to add memorials for families to find.

RE: aaron ivins
Coincidence that you would find that as we were in Georgia last month visiting my mom and went to Andersonville and to Aaron's grave. Yes, he served in a different infantry unit than my ggrandfather Owen but they were all three (Owen, William-the one in WP and Aaron) at Chickamauga when Aaron was taken prisoner and sent to southern Georgia. Owen and Aaron were brothers and William a cousin but had lived with the Isaac Ivinses a lot and was like a brother to them. BTW, I am the Laura Cox who submitted the picture and some of the info. My maiden name is Dutch for "Man with Wings". That was a great trip and that National Historic Site is dedicated to all prisoners of war. Aaron left behind a wife and two sons. Hiram Ivins-buried in WP Cemetery-was the son of Aaron Ivins. I cannot find the older son's (Marion) burial place but it is possible he was buried in the Ivins Cemetery which is down the road to Middlebury from WP (behind a house). I have the Ivins Cemetery coordinates somewhere. Isn't it fascinating what you learn from family History? Laura

RE: Ivins in White Pigeon
William Ivins (Ivens) who is buried in WP was in the 29th Indiana Infantry. His parents were William Ivins and Anna Moor. Catherine, his wife, was born in WP in 1848 to Kenneth and Martha Baker. William and Catherine's children were George E. (died in Portland, OR in 1938), Walter P. (buried in WP), Martha A. Ivins Kirkwood (buried in South Bend, IN), Josephine Ivins Kelley (buried in Forsyth, Montana) and Edward William Ivins (buried in WP). Let me know if you find any obits. I have some newspaper websites but they don't include WP area, just Elkhart. Thanks so much! Laura :)

RE: Ivins in White Pigeon
Hi Again Karen! Yes, I would like to have those transferred. The W. Ivens in the WP records is William and the proof is on Ancestry.com in the CW headstone applications. There is one for William Ivins (or Ivens) to be sent to WP cemetery. His wife was buried there so it just made sense but in that area of the cemetery there are quite a few blank spots where headstones have been gone for a long time and so time fades the memory of who is buried there. Not far from them used to be a couple of headstones of Edward and George Mandigo. George was the son. Edward was married to Barbara Ivins, my great grandfather's sister and she is buried with them but had no headstone. So WP Cemetery has some mysteries. Thanks so much for being there and taking the time to create these memorials. Laura

RE: Ivins in White Pigeon
Hi Karen! My great grandfather Owen Ivins served with William Ivins (his cousin) during the CW. William Ivins or Ivens should also be buried there by Walter who was his son. I have tried to get the CW headstone as he should have been buried there by his wife Catherine and son Walter. I handed that over to the local Sons of CW Veterans but I guess nothing got done yet. Walter would then be a distant cousin of mine. They are the side of the family who changed the spelling frequently from Ivins to Ivens and sometimes back again. Several of William and Catherine's children moved west. One son Edward should be there in White Pigeon cemetery (wife Edna Wade)--he'd be Walter's brother. Not sure how he spelled his name. So either way would work. If you were where we have stood before, Catherine's headstone was square on the edge so a diamond shape but probably has fallen down. The White Pigeon city hall people were very nice about helping but again nothing happened yet with William's stone. But he should be there by Walter. Thanks. Laura

Karen, James' listing is already one of my own. I would be happy to manage Mary's #138415239 if you want to transfer. Are there headstones for either James or Mary? .... And thank you for canvassing the cemeteries in White Pigeon. It is very much appreciated.

Karen,

I will consider it. I am a little more comfortable with the pictures being on Ancestry. Some folks are a little weird about Findagrave.
