I've made the link between Emma and her father, as you requested. I noticed that I didn't know where Emma was buried. Do you know?
Also, I'm not related, so if you or someone else in the family would like to manage Emma's listing, I'd be happy to transfer him accordingly. Just let me know. Ann

You got two for the price of one! Hope you don't mind, but thought you should have them both.

First, it's F.A.G.com, my shorthand for FindAGrave.com. I prefer contributors sign-in to the group when sending info, so I have their ID# to cite as the source of whatever info they want added.
In this case, I'm afraid I have been guilty of adding "undocumented" info to his memorial as it has been sent to me. I should have stuck to my original policy! So now, I've spent a couple of hours trying to document "three wives". Yuk! I'll gladly transfer this memorial to you.... or ANYBODY else, who care to "manage" it.
Wish I could help you but the best I can tell NONE of the info is correct, so I'm going to delete it. If you take over this memorial, you can add whatever you find out.
I can only assume the 1850 census is the indication that he was married prior to Phoebe, because he had six children, and no wife listed. Also, the 1912 death record (FamilySearch.org) for his son, Benjamin (b. abt. 1837), states his parents were "John & BETTIE Fike". Ofcourse, that does not mean the informant was correct...
We know Phoebe was a wife because it is stated on her headstone. Also, she is on the 1860 & 1870 census with him.
While the 1880 census shows his wife as Nancy P., Phoebe didn't die until 1891, per her headstone (and remember, it states "wife of J.K. Fike"), so is it possible her actual first name was Nancy... and the P. stood for Phoebe? Supposedly, the 1880 census was more thorough than previous census... Doesn't mean it's correct though. Anyway, perhaps that is where the assumption of another wife comes from.
I did not locate ANY marriage record for him online, but then I didn't spend the time I'd normally devote to my own ancestors. I have no idea who sent me the info about Phoebe's maiden name being 'Badgett'.
Please let me know ASAP regarding the transfer.

Not a problem at all. I didn't go to the cemetery, but I've done a lot of research at this cemetery and I know this name isn't on the listing of people buried in the Bellview section. If you do happen to find a location, please let me know what it is as I will be at the cemetery next Wednesday to have my grandfather's tombstone installed. If you come across a location, I can photograph the marker and/or area for you. Take care, Nola
