Thanks for the photo of Andreas and Astri Jentoft. Do you know if there are other Jentoft's at Oddernes Old Churchyard? I live in the US.I'm trying to find other relatives buried in Norway.

RE: Photos from Gravminner
I too have contacted Gravminner twice to seek permission to use their photos. No answer. I will now try to contact the photographers. Up until now I have only used my own photos or those with permission. Thank you for your help.

RE: Cemeteries in Norway
Thank you very much for enhancing the information with the interactive map and gps coordinates for the cemeteries in Norway. Any other information you have on any of the cemeteries is greatly appreciated. Have you ever asked Gravminner i Norge for permission to use one of their grave stone photos to complete a memorial in FindAGrave?

RE: Severine and Johannes Opheim
It is so interesting to know this. Thank you for letting me know. I had NO idea that those things still happen. They used to do it like that In America. Now days there are very strict rules with caskets being in cement vaults whether its underground or in a mausoleum. Once people purchase a cemetery plot it is their property. There are no other fees. They can use it or sell it to somebody else if they choose to. As far as I know people cannot be buried on their own personal property anymore. They used to do that a hundred years ago though.

What a sad thing that people buy headstones and the cemetery destroys them if a fee is not paid. I just cant rap my mind around that. It seems like there is something criminal about it but I am sure it is just the way it is. I read something on a website one time about another country doing the same thing. I think it may be England or Sweden. I cant remember for sure.

Anyway, Thank you so much for your help and for educating me, and for the photos that you took and posted... I really appreciate it...

RE: Severine and Johannes Opheim
Oh wow. Thank you for messaging me..

That just seems really sad :( Doesn't seem to be the right thing to do. Future generations have no place to go visit their ancestors. I would have paid the fee if I had known there was a fee and that the fee was not being paid.

It is always fascinating to learn how different cultures and societies handle things.

Does it mean that they place people in a wood box without a cement vault and they decay into the soil?

Would you know what they do with the old headstones?

RE: Hjalmar Ruud, Mandal Norway.
Dear Kjell: Hjalmar Ruud is my Grandfather. He was born on January 11, 1885 and died on October 6, 1963 this was his fifth trip back to Norway after my Grandmother Pernille Elisabethe (Edvardsdatter) Tobiasen-Ruud died in 1958. He is buried with one of the twins Anna and Katrina Ruud. Anna Ruud is my mother's first cousin. I have relatives in Mandal, Mones, Lian and Kristiansand. I was so happy you sent me these pictures. My grandparents were married here in Massachusetts in 1907. I have been doing my family tree since 1989l My Grandfather Ruud was born in Vestby (akerhus) Norway. Thank you for sending these pictures this means so much to me.

Sincerely, Elizabeth A Munnick

Note: My other Grandfather was born in Mandal Norway as well. Both sides of my family are Norwegian.

Spyker head stone
Thank you so much for posting this head stone picture. Long before Find A Grave, I started a book of locations with headstone pictures. I did this because the elder family members were dying and I didn't want their knowledge lost. It really is a blessing that Find A Grave is worldwide.

Peder Olai Pederson Tveitnes & Ellen Jansdatter Aase
Thank you so much for the picture of Peder & Ellen's headstone! I truly appreciate it! Do you happen to know what the little headstone in front says, the one for Einar Tveitnes? Is he their son?

Thank you for THIS information! I'll see what I can do to make the corrections.

Do you know which cemetery the picture would belong?

Do you know which cemetery the 86 interments belong?

RE: Following in your tracks.
Sorry for the long delay. I will attempt to put together a rough map of where I walked and what I was able to photograph/submit. Give me a few days.

RE: Bernt Einersen, Holt, Norway.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that! This is my family. Bernt Einerson had 16 children-the youngest being my 3rd great grandmother. She is the only one that immigrated to USA with her husband. It was a large family. He was a big property owner and ship builder/owner.
