George Stout of Athens Ohio
Hi Lila, I am sorry but Charles Stout, son of George and Eliza Stout is not your Charles of Ripton, Illinois. George's son Charles was born on 4/24/1827. His 1st wife was Ellen Gregory,2nd wife was Louise Wiley. He had 2 daughters: Addie and Mary Belle. He is buried in Orange Cemetery in Athens County and someone has posted his gravestone on his site. Sorry but good luck in your search!

Elijah Stout
I live on the farm where the Stout Cemetery is located. Actually, it is approx. 75-100 ft from the house (which I believe our house was built in the early 80's, and the gravel road is long gone). Although time has taken it's toll on the cemetery, the names and dates on the 6 stones are still very clear and readable. Elijah Stout was born August 1, 1771 and died July 9, 1846 at the age of 74. His wife, Elizabeth, is also buried in this cemetery. Elizabeth (Turnham) Stout was born March 24, 1773 and died July 18, 1833. Is it possible that Nancy could have been his 2nd wife (since he outlived Elizabeth by 13 yr)? Also buried in the cemetery:
*their son, William M. 1812-1855 (43 yr old)
*William's wife, Emily 1806-1822 (16 yr old)
*their son David's wife, Eliza Ann 1815-1838 (23 yr old)...However, David is not buried here.
*infant daughter of C.T. & M.A., Susan E. died June 12, 1840 (5 months old)...I'm not sure who C.T. & M.A. are??
I've lived on this farm for 3 yrs, but just this past week I became interested in trying to uncover the history of this farm and the Stout family (which is how I found this site and saw your note). As soon as the weather permits, I will take some photos. I would appreciate any info on the Stout family that lived here, if anyone has anything to share. Recommended sites would be greatly appreciated too. This is all new to me. Thanks.

Elijah Stout
In the Cemeteries of Shelby County Kentucky book published in the late 1970's, ther1e is a listing for Elijah Stout. At that time a slab type marker was found for him. The inscription was as follows:

In memory of/Elijah Stout was born August the 1st 1771 died July the 9th 1846 Aged 74 years 11 months & 9 days. This monument is a tribute of respect to the many Christian virtues Possessed by him who reposes beneath. Paid by his children. This is a slab marker measuring approximately 30" by 72".

This cemetery is in a pretty out of the way place and I am not sure that I could ever visit. If I do I will try to get picture for you.

You are always very welcome Lila. Gives me a lot of enjoyment and a reason to go to Mt Sterling occasionally. :-)

Sorry Lila, I have no photos of any other Kendrick. I only took photos of surnames with requests, and photographed Mary only because of the prominence of the BLACK surname on her marker. I usually photograph spouses also, but I can't say for sure at Mount Sterling.

Charles Crawford
I remember Charles Crawford as a kid. My Grandparents, Stephen and Pearl Rigg were good friends with him. My Uncle George and Aunt Blanche Rigg lived in his house for awhile, I guess he left state and rented it to them? The house was across from my Grandparents farm, down a long lane.

Hi Lila

I believe I have all of your Hersman requests with one possie exception. Is it possible that Donna Crawford has the last name of Holmes? Dates match and she's near Charlie.

I found the information on Richard, including a nice photo of him, and created a memorial for him. He was cremated and disposition of his ashes is unknown. Therefore I cannot link him to a cemetery. I did, however, link him to his mother and have requested that the originator, Chris Nelson, add same to his father's memorial page.

I had to do the link differently because the person who created Gerald Jr's page is no longer active, so she cannot create the link.

Anyway, all three of her children are accessed via her page and soon, they will all be accessed from G.A.'s page also.

Gilkey
Hi Lila,
Yes, JD Gilkey is the researcher I was referring to, glad you guys have already hooked up. He recently requested a look-up in our local cemetery and through that I became acquainted with him. I am a cousin to Arthur E Gilkey, his mother Nancy Ann Putman was a sister to my great grandmother, Sarilda Putman. I hadn't realized the Gilkey's came from Brown County to Sutter County, California as well as the Summy's, Putman's, and Perry's. Very interesting!!!!

One more new one for you. I found and photographed George Moody, son of G.A. and Beatrice. I created a memorial for him on Find-A-Grave. I linked him to both of his parents. Also, I notice that "G.A" Moody already has a memorial page and photos. His FindAGrave number is 95716660.

As it turns out, I actually DID take the photo but didn't make the connection in my mind. I was keyed in on the Behrends name. Once you explained it, I looked back through my Hersman photos and there it was.

I also have Juanita and Charles Elliott Crawford but I see their memorials already have photos on them.

I will certainly keep these on my list and when I return that way, I will be sure to follow your excellent directions to capture those photos. Sorry that I apparently missed them.

RE: Mount Sterling
Lila

As I recall, we saw several Gilkeys in our search, but we were concentrating on James and Winifred. I didn't think to photograph other Gilkeys at the time since we had a list of 50 requests from this cemetery alone. I may go back in a few weeks and search further for those we didn't find on this trip.

The only Stouts I recalled for sure are the ones I photographed.

One interesting thing did occur yesterday. We had a request for a husband and wife supposed to be at Mt Sterling City Cemetery. We later found them at Mt Sterling Catholic Cemetery. That was a first for me but I can easily see where that could happen with two cemetery names that are very similar.

We will see what we can do in a few weeks to see if we missed anyone.

Hi Lila,
I noticed in your message to Bismarck that you mentioned the Gilkey's. I am related to some Gilkey's in CA myself and I have recently connected to someone doing research on all Gilkey lines that I can hook you up with if you haven't already connected with him. Let me know.

Today, my son and I walked the entire cemetery. What we have provided is all that we found regarding these requests. I suspect many of the older markers have not survived. Some are no longer legible.

If you want to leave the requests in place in case we missed them, I understand. I believe, however, we were pretty thorough.
