That will is most likely at the GA Archives. Are you local? I may be able to go over there sometime, but my schedule as a substitute media specialist is unpredictable. email me at and we'll see what we can do.

RE: bahamas

Have fun on Harbour Island - a favourite place of mine.

Green Turtle Cay - another wonderful place - was done years back.

Bahamians love their history.

Thanks for checking in..

Thanks for the update. I have removed the photos that I took. We no longer live in Savannah -- we've moved to Florida -- so I will not be doing any more requests for that area.

Omie Gill Cribbs
I sent you a followup email letting you know I added Omie's father and also added her maiden name. But my email came back. The email I used was which is on your Find A Grave page.

If you are related to them, please let me know and I can transfer. Although I was born and raised in Savannah these folks are not related to me, but several of the CARTER folks buried there connect to me in one way or the other, including my great-grandparents Robert Carter & Josephine Lightsey.

I received the photo from someone in the Strickland family. I know I posted some of her family members and I transferred ownership to her. I would have to check into it, I can't remember her name.

RE: Parents of Mary Elizabeth Barber Strickland --Barber/Walton
Wish I could help, but sorry, no. Her husband is a very distant ancestor of my husband. FTM show her as the wife of a 3rd cousin 4x removed of my husband. I received this info from a cousin many years ago and no longer have contact with her. Sorry, wish I could help, I only have Julius' approx. DOB and nothing but her name as his wife. Good luck with your searching.

Thanks for contact.

Ira Stansell
Could you please remove the part in her bio which states that the town of Johnston, SC was named for the Rev John Knox Johnston family. This is incorrect information forwarded to you. Rev JK Johnston was my direct descendant.

Johnston, SC was named for another Johnston in the railroad business....drat!

I can only dream. :)

Thank you.

Hi Kathleen,
RE: Bio for Ira Stansell

Ira Thompson Willis Stansell was the daughter of Robert Moore Willis and Susan McCreary. Williston, S.C. was probably named after Robert Moore's older brothers' contributions of land for school, depot and church. It is a local saying about Robert and Susan’s parents: “ McCreary owned all the land between Williston and the Savannah River (this would be west) and Robert Willis owned all on the other side of Williston to the S.Edisto River. “

Can you link Ira to her sister, Ellen Elizabeth Willis Johnston? 33144256

I am not interested in taking it over, thank-you for offering. IF you want to not be responsible I imagine the person managing Ellen’s sight would be interested…she is related to Ira also.

Hi Kathleen,

Ira's middle name was Thompson and her maiden name was Willis. Her parents were Robert Moore Willis and Susan McCreary Willis whose second husband was John Knox Johnston. Williston was probably named after Robert Moore's older brothers' contributions to Williston. McCreary was very wealthy and Johnston is also a town named from this family. You might say Ira was very well connected! Would you include this info on her page?

I hope you might have interest in Find A Grave Memorial# 20873799. I found the wonderful marker by chance, and a little research introduced the man who, like so many, was unable to reach his full potential. And like so many more, history passes by.
