Herbert Wright and Wilda Fox
I hope you are feeling better! I just wanted you to know that I added Wilda Fox (who is my relative) and linked her to Herbert Wright who is apparently your relative. I don't have Wilda's date of death but hopefully someone will let me know. Take care.

RE: Lutes
WVVR website has been a huge help to me as well. Hiram's 1861 marriage certificate from WVVR names his parents and is the only evidence for them yet found.

Some day I'll make it to Washington County, PA and see if I can find records there. If your sister can help out that would be great.

Below are details collected for Hiram :

According to family history Hiram Lutes was born in March 1824, near Jones Town*, Washington County, Pennsylvania. His birth in Washington County is noted on his 1861 marriage license. An 1873 map shows the location of Jones Store in Fallowfield Township of Washington County. As of 2010 there exists a Lover - Jonestown Road at the same location.

*Jones Town Post-office, in Fallowfield township, is a place named in honor of John Jones, and is located on land patented to a Mr. Longsley. This village contains nine dwellings, has one store, a school-house, and a blacksmith-shop. A post-office was established here in 1857. This office was at one time discontinued but soon re-established. [ Per Boyd Crumrine, "History of Washington County, Pennsylvania with Biographical Sketches of Many of its Pioneers and Prominent Men" (Philadelphia: L. H. Leverts & Co., 1882). ]

Hiram died 29 Sep 1904 near Moundsville, WV. His occupation was carpenter and cabinet maker and he had a small farm. He married Cassie Eleanor Dobbs. She died on 16 Nov 1860 and Hiram remarried. His second wife was Mary Lutes and their wedding was 15 Aug 1861.

Mary Lutes was a daughter of David and Nancy (Sivert) Lutes. The marriage record indicates that Mary was single when they wed, although she had a daughter, Alvida, who was ~10 at the time. Mary's father David Lutes was from Washington County, Pennsylvania, as was Hiram, yet any family relationship between Hiram and David is unknown. Both Mary and Alvida can be found living with David and Nancy Lutes in the 1860 census.

Hiram's youngest daughter Susan Jane Lutes, by his first wife, was very young (2-1/2 years old) when he remarried. Susan did not get along well with her stepmother and when her siblings left home she spent most of her time with her older brother William Harvey Lutes, who owned a store in Friendly, Tyler County, West Virginia. She also spent time with her sister Emily Belle Lutes. Their sister Margaret V. Lutes died at age 7. In the 1880 census, at the age of 21, Susan was still living with Hiram and his second wife Mary. During Susan's time at her brother Harvey's store she met Martin Fredrick Williamson in 1882 or 1883 and they married 4 Jul 1887.

Hiram served in the Civil War and a few records of his service are contained in the database of the West Virginia Adjutant General's papers. Images of Hiram's papers (3 pages) have been uploaded to his profile here on For the original files see Hiram Lutes of Marshall County, WV here :

The West Virginia State Service Commission was formed in 1901, the result of an ongoing process within West Virginia government since 1865, to provide payment for services rendered by the state militia and home guard of West Virginia in the Civil War. These papers are an application for payment for services in the war. The request was denied. Hiram was poor and at the time of application (1901) was 77 years old.

RE: William Lutes
Hi Mrs. E,

Pleased to make your acquaintance! So, we are related through Hiram Lutes, who was my gg grandfather?

Do you have any info on Hiram's parents? Hiram was born near Jones Store, in Washington County, and I found his marriage certificate, which named John and Susan Lutes as his parents. However, I've not found anything on them.

Everything I have on the family is on, although I'm no longer a paying member.

RE: William Lutes
Thank you!
William Lutes is a great grand uncle, on my mother's side. Find a Grave has been so helpful to me, and the links for family are a great part of that, so my main interest was to make more info available to his heirs and other researchers.
Thanks again, Patrick

Sorry I hadn't gotten back to fill out more of her pg. BUT I've now made the connections to her M&D & added more to her bio.

Do you know why her obit says "Mary Bumblewich" but the connection for a Mary to her M&D is "Mary Francis Carr Abromowitz" Mem# 88444584?

Thanks for leaving the information regarding my best buddy and my favorite cousin Eddie. I keep a picture of the two of us next to my chair and talk to him every day. Even now as I write this, tears are coming to my eyes. This picture is now added to my album.
