I requested the photo after seeing Duncan's memorial on Find-a-Grave. Perhaps Cori Hoag (#46481123), who created the monument, might know the answer.

I will remove my aunt great Sarah's memorial, I am glad you added my memorials of Sarah's siblings. BTW, Lucy Gaines Clark Mann was my grandmother, her son Chandos 'Red', my father. I use to play with Gary Golladay when their family would come to visit our house.

|Gathering Roots||Jacob Golladay-Merge them|
Dear Concerned Find-A-Gave Contributors and visitors,
Regarding: DUPLICATE MEMORIALS in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia
A former large volume F-A-G Contributor had a dispute with Find-A-Grave staff and Deleted some 80% or more, of their contributed memorials, estimated to be about 40,000 or so. Thus causing the rest of us local Contributors, over the last year or more, to re-enter those family, friends and distant relatives we noted were missing.
Once F-A-G had decided to take positive action, they reloaded all the Deleted memorials from that former F-A-G Contributor, on Wednesday, 25feb2015. F-A-G staff, undoubtedly knew they would cause tens of thousands of Duplicates, and assigned their staffer, known as 'ProjectMgr' to work through their Merge process.
Please be patient and allow F-A-G to work through the entire group of Duplicate memorials.
E49 Created above Statement
If anyone gets Find A Grave to transfer memorials cared for by ProjectMgr Just a heads up I dont delete any connected to ProjectMgr.I worked hard to replace all the memorials that had been deleted.Find A Grave choice to re-upload the Old Deleted memorials And we work free on this site.So if anyone wants our memorials Have Find A Grave Merge them or if you dont have a problem merging then more power to you.
I do want to thank anyone that has helped with my duplicants created after the major upload of old memorials formerly deleted.I really appreciate the help.

|JeMM||Charles Veron Golladay Memorial at Toms Brook Cemetery|
Actually the memorial for Charles Vernon Golladay that you cite is actually a duplicate. The memorial for Charles Veron Golladay that I created was recreated by me because the original contributor (Stars & Bars) mass deleted close to 47.000 memorials in Shenandoah County VA and surrounding areas including some ancient headstone photographs that by the time of deletion were some 7 years or more older. When I first noticed that Stars & Bars was mass deleting memorials, I contacted Find A Grave on many occasions trying to get Find A Grave to stop the mass deletions, but nothing was done. After I spent a great deal of time going to the cemetery to photograph the headstones and then recreating these memorials, suddenly Project Manager from Find A Grave added the deleted memorials back in on 25 Feb 2015 without checking that they had already been replaced by other contributors like me, Gathering Roots, dMf and others. Please note that Find A Grave is still tryng to correct their duplications. Many of us volunteers are very upset about this action by Find A Grave. I do not plan to delete the memorial I created since this was the fault of Find A Grave, but Find A Grave has been trying to correct their own error regarding this and has deleted many of the other memorials that Stars & Bars originally created at Toms Brook and throughout Shenandoah County, VA. Anyway, this is one of the few that are still left at the Toms Brook Cemetery. You might check with Find A Grave to have them merged, but I do not intend to delete the memorials I spent so much time recreating in order that the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia was still represented in Find A Grave. Thank you for your contributions, but remember that if you don't want a memorial please transfer to others, do not delete it or the same thing could happen again. JeMM

There is a headstone at Mound City National Cemetery that only has the name "George" on it and it is a Civil War Era headstone. But without documentation, God only knows who he is.

I check 3 very credible sources before I give up finding a headstone. 2 are online and the final one is the cemetery book. I don't like to say a soldier is not buried there cause of the large number of "Unknowns" at Mound City National Cemetery. Most likely he is Unknown status. But I will keep his name in my notebook and if I happen to run across his headstone, I will notify you.

|Linda Simpson Davidson||RE: Clem-Golladay Cemetery Photographs|
Thank you, Walter. I didn't always take the quality of the photo that I do now, but my husband and I love doing this, and we have learned some things over the years. My husband brushes the stone, taking care not to damage it. It is amazing the dirt and lichen that is on the old stones that will come off with a careful brushing. Then, I get down on my knees to get the right angle, and also crop the photo when I get home. We love documenting the very old stones because each year the stone is getting less readable, and a photo is a permanent record. So, if it can be brushed and the detail show forth, it seems a worthwhile effort. I have heard from people all over the country after photographing very old stones in Baltimore City where few people care to visit and the cemeteries are so huge that they have not been recorded. You can imagine the excitement and the greatfulness of a descendant who has finally found their ancestor after searching for years. This is what makes it worthwhile! We're still learning some techniques about lighting and angles for photographing.....we read some on-line tips and suggestions and might try some of them. Thanks again for your feed back! We loved learning some about the Golladays!

Heres a link that has all burials with memorial as of late 1970's. Go to vol. 6 which has Higg. City cem.
there is a Golladay listed in the Cemtery Assoc. records which start in the 130's I believe. I just don't know if those memorials listed there actually exist as tehy don't match up to the map on page 3.
Let me know what you figure out
