RE: Fanny Schwartz #106027458
Hi Maurene,

Thank you for the transfer of Fanny's memorial. I did notice that there were many other potentially related persons in that cemetery and I appreciate your willingness both to transfer memorials and your offer to take photos.

Is the newer Hallettsville Jewish Cemetery a separate cemetery listing on FindAGrave or are both cemeteries included as one listing? I searched but did not find the newer Hallettsville Jewish Cemetery.

I sympathize with you in your dismay over your research results. I can only imagine how distressing those discoveries must be!

To answer your question, I am in Louisiana, but with family roots in both states. You mentioned the orphanage; my grandfather and his siblings grew up in that orphanage!

Kind Regards,

RE: Fanny Schwartz #106027458
Hi Maureen,

Tnank you for your kind reply. I am not really related to Fanny; she's a "collateral" person in my tree. If you want to transfer her to me, that's fine ... or if you choose to keep her, that's OK too. I did send you a 2nd edit that you apparently overlooked ... to add her maiden name.

Hello Maurene,

I always write down the birth and death dates as I'm photographing, and you are correct - the date of birth for Joseph Freeman is November 11, 1849. You are more than welcome to use the photo anyway you wish!

Have a great weekend,

Pat Griffith Brown
RE: Ferdinand D. Rothschild
My husband, Mike Brown, shares some ancestors with Ferdinand Rothschild (1906-1991). Ferdinand's mother, Bess DeWitt Rothschild (1877-1965), was a half-sister to my husband's mother's mother's father, John Howard Smyth (1864-1947). Their mother was Leora E. McGannon (1842-1938) of Jennings Co, IN. Leora married first John A. Smyth (1837-1869) in 1861 in Jennings Co, IN, then Franklin Peter DeWitt (1839-1911) in 1873, also in Jennings Co, IN. But they soon moved to Tipton Co, IN. After her second husband's death, Leora moved to Indianapolis. She spent her last days living with her widowed daughter, Bess DeWitt Rothschild. My mother-in-law remembers her mother taking her on visits to that household when she was a little girl.

Even the guy at Montrose said "I wonder why they waited two years to pick up the ashes." Let me know what you find out.

Hi Maurene -

The mystery deepens. Eli Felsenthal was cremated at Montrose Cemetery. The ashes were picked up two years later(!!!)by the funeral home. He is not buried there.

Hi Maurine - No relation. I just found his photo in a book of famous Jews in Chicago and posted it. I'll have to get a photo of his grave. Thanks for your interest.

Maureen, you are so very welcome. I truly enjoy volunteering to take photos, and it makes it all the more fun to know that I've helped someone like you find a long lost relative!
Yes, my picture is of Beth Yeshurun Cemetery on Allen Parkway. I used to live in the old Allen House Apartments that were right across the street (which have since been torn down).
Best regards,

Thank you very much for the photos on my 2nd great grand parents! I am sure that the Joseph P Brown you found is their son and my great grand uncle. Please do post the photo! Did you notice a Alabama Brown or maybe Bamy (Bammy or Bamie) Brown? Her name was Tennessee Alabama Brown and she may have gone by her middle name

Thanks Again

It was not problem. I don't mind at all. If you find out any information that puts him at a different cemetery, I don't mind looking there... to help.
