Hazel Williams Cape County Memorial
Robin: Yesterday I photographed Hazel Williams grave (Section 9 lot 177 grave 2) at Cape County Memorial. And added James Williams. Judy Stansbery had claimed your request for Hazel's grave but she and I e-mailed and she asked me to try as she lives in Colorado and only gets to come to Cape several times a year. We do not know how to "unclaim" the photograph so I didn't know if you would get a message or not. Ruth Smith

Lucinda Watts Pictures
Robin,

My wife and I found markers in the Oakton Cemetery in Barton County, Missouri for a Lucetta L. Watts. Death was May 30, 1899. She was the wife of G.S. However, date of birth is listed as 1860 and not 1862 as posted in Find-a-Grave. The 1860 birth date would be consistent with the age and date of death. Is it possible the middle initial L. is for Lucinda?

There are actually two markers for Lucetta L. Watts. One is obviously old and most likely an original. The other is much newer and may have been added earlier because the original is getting so weather-worn.

I have pictures of both markers. If you think the Lucetta Watts we have found is the same as the Lucinda Watts listed in Find-a-Grave, then reply to this message and I will post the pictures. I want to be sure it is the same person before posting.

Sincerely,

Tom Compton

Robin, did you ever find or receive a photo of William Carroll Lee. New to Find A Grave, I just posted a photo of Mary Virginia (Lee) May of her on her 90th birthday. I attended the party when i was 10. My grandfather was her son, Ernest Lee May. I have a photograph of her son, Leo and daughter Genevieve with Mary Virginia on her birthday if you are interested.

RE: lightner cemetery
Robin, please give a few more details of what you are trying to do. There are several things you can do, depending on the cemetery. Where is this cemetery? Andrew

Sorry, life has been busy. The pictures I do have will all be posted online when I find the time. Slowly but surely. Obits I get a little at a time. I have mostly found the ones directly to me, like grandparents and ggrandparents. Is there anyone particular person of interest for you?

Mason County Cemetery Records
Hello again,

One thing I wanted to mention and forgot to. Mason Co., WV has a set of 5 Cemetery Transcription books published in the 1980's I believe. Each one covers several county districts. You can browse their publications here: http://meigscohistorical.org/464.html

RE: lathey
Unfortunately no, I really wish that I did because many members of my family are buried there.

Here's a little info:

According to Mason County records, this cemetery was partitioned into two sections, Browns Hill and "K of P" (Knights of Pythias). Due to the large size of this cemetery (550 grave sites provided for in the original survey during the 1890's).

Given that Find-A-Grave currently lists 469 memorials, only about 80 are missing. I add them as I find them through wvculture.org. Its an amazing source of free records, if you haven't heard of it, I suggest checking it out: http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/

A little more info: AmeriCorps cleaned up the cemetery in 2003, but the city did not do the upkeep, thus by 2012... its current state.

RE: lathey
Yes, I agree, its very sad, as well as upsetting I think, when people destroy something as sacred as a cemetery. Its also very sad, if not more so, that the city absolutely does not care. I heard from my uncle something along the lines of once when the city had the money to clean it up, fix the road, and right the stones they spent it on something trivial instead.

RE: lathey
The only two Lathey's currently listed as being buried in Brown Cemetery (there's no way the list for the cemetery is complete though) were interred there in 1886 and 1889. I visited the cemetery in 2012 and took the photos I recently submitted. The cemetery is shamefully overgrown. There are reportedly well over 500 plots there scattered over the hillside amid briers, brush, and fully grown trees. I was also informed that back in the 1970's or maybe earlier there was a teenager that, I kid you not, lassoed many tombstones and pulled them over on their faces. This information came from an uncle that was on the town council. There is no plan to revitalize this cemetery, it is essentially abandoned, sadly, and nearly inaccessible by car.

Anyways, if there is a stone for them, it is long since covered over by the elements that have overtaken the area.

The picture of the tombstone you added for him, clearly says Edw'd J Sanders. Would you please review this for yourself? Thanks.
