Hi Mark, I'm really interested in knowing about your line of the family. I grew up in the country southwest of Lebanon. As a child I remember going to see some Carney family in Lebanon. Don't remember the people but only the outside stairs to the home. I know my grandfather, Cordon, had a half brother, Morris, and I think he is who we visited. I have nothing on his children. Can you fill me in on Morris and his family? Contact me thru my email, please.

Re: Doc and Dolly
Yes, I am related to Dolly through the Merritt Line.
My great grandparents were Elizabeth (Walters) and John Merritt. They were parents of Rebecca (Merritt) Galbreath and my Grandpa John Wesley Merritt. Rebecca and Elijah Galbreath were parents of "Aunt Sarah" (Galbreath) Denny. (She married Isaac Denny). They were parents of Deliah (Delily) Katherine Denny, and she married "Doc" Carney. (Second marriage of both.)
(Growing up, I saw a lot of "Aunt Sarah" and her sister "Aunt Mary". My parents taught us to call them both, "Aunt" out of respect for them. My parents thought a lot of both of them) Doc and Dolly came to visit and we went to their home to visit them many times. Doc helped my Pop, John William Merritt, to build our "new home". I remember riding different times in the "rumble seat" of Doc's car, and thought it was such fun.
I don't really know how Deliah Katherine became our "Dolly". I never heard the story on that. But I never heard her referred to as Deliah Kathrine, Kathy, or Delily. I would assume that she became our Dolly, either because, at a young age, maybe she was called Delily, and Pop and maybe others, called her Dolly, when they were young and couldn't pronounce Deliah. Or perhaps because she was such a pretty young lady. But this, I am only guessing. I thought a lot of Doc and Dolly both, and was very upset to hear of their tragic death. Aunt Sarah and Aunt Mary were very precious ladies. Of course they had other siblings, Sammie, Jimmie and Lucy, but I didn't see as much of them as I did Aunt Mary and
Aunt Sarah. I surmise you are related to the Carney family, and not Dolly's family. Anyway, thanks for the message. Brings back good memories. Lou Spoon

RE: Stephen Carney, Jr.
Thanks for your note.
Moses A Carney was married 4 times? I don't know who Blanche Marie was. When did they marry and what was her maiden name?

Moses Carney
I am now managing Moses' memorial and noticed your message regarding his marriage to Iva/Ivy. My grandfather is Cordon from his 1st marriage to Tullie Higgins. Do you know where Morris and his mother are buried? If you prefer you can contact me at:

RE: Blanche Marie Carney
Messages like yours always bring a smile :-) So I'm gonna guess we are distantly related through the Carney family. My Great Grama's sister, Catherine Delilah "Kate" Denny married Adolph Carney (her second husband...believe first was a Griffith). They were killed right after visiting my Grama on the reformatory grounds in Pendleton where Grampa was Assistant Warden. They had a child with them...I believe it was a cousin of Adolph but much younger so I'm not sure...his name was Moses. This happened New Years Eve 1950 or New Years Day 1951 I can't remember at the moment. I have added the news article on Katherine's page in case you haven't come across it in your searches. If you have anything you could share on Adolph I'd love to have it as I haven't found anything other than his parents and other family...just not anything on him! Would love pictures so that I might be able to compare to the boxes of unnamed photos I have here at home. I appreciate the kind words of encouragement...much needed this week!
