Phil Schlee
Tillinghast Letters
In checking my files, I realize I still have all three letters in my possession:
(1) December 15, 1832 -- Gideon Tillinghast, Brownville, to his father, Stephen Tillinghast, Exeter, Rhode Island;
(2) March 24, 1847 -- Joseph S. Tillinghast, New Bedford, Massachusetts, to Guy R. Phelps, Hartford, Connecticut;
(3) G. Tillinghast, Little Falls, New York, to his brother, Samuel Tillinghast, Foster, Rhode Island.
I will be glad to send you a scan of each letter, as well as my transcriptions. Just let me know!

Tillinghast Letters
I collect old letters and have several (three, I believe) Tillinghast letters. Two of them are in the Special Collections at K-State (here in Manhattan, Kansas); the third one is in my possession: March 24, 1847, New Bedford, Massachusetts -- Joseph S. Tillinghast to Guy R. Phelps. I'll be glad to send more info on the other two letters, as well as scanned copies of all the letters if you are interested. These letters were purchased on eBay! I didn't realize Joseph's mother was a Sanford. I'm descended from the 'Sandford' family, so there might be a connection. Way back when, two of the lines dropped the middle 'd' from the name. I'll need to do more research on that. My e-mail address is

Hi Tamara,

You have left flowers in the Westerman Cemetery Find-a-Grave, noting that Charles & Eleanor Westerman are your husband's ancestors. . .as they are mine.

It's always fun to find new cousins and am wondering where he fits into the Westerman tree.

Your 7th cousin Henry Dwight Sedgwick, III. Memorial #47339392.

I noticed that you left flowers on Henry Dwight Sedgwick, III. Memorial #47339392.

You may already know this.... Did you know he is a paternal great-grandfather to actress Kyra Sedgwick, whose father is Henry Dwight Sedgwick V?

Info about it is here:

I came across this while doing some research on his second wife Gabriella Ladd and thought I would pass it on to you in case you didn't already know.

I just thought it was interesting. I sent an edit to the manager of his memorial to add that information.

No, I haven't really looked for Thomas' parents. Do you have a copy of his death certificate?

I just found my 5x great-grandfather, Christopher Gifford III via an Ancestry hint. It appears that you have already left a note as a distant cousin of his. So, you and I may also be distant cousins. ;-) Cheers!

RE: P.S.
it was coincidence, I post info on members of E Clampus Vitus, my fraternal order, Robert was a member of E Clampus Vitus, so I added the note to his memorial, Richard was at Mountain View Cemetery where I have taken over 15,000 headstone pictures, so I added his memorial.
