Esda Hyams
Are you related to Esda Hyams? I have ask numerous times for management to be transferred so I can make additions and my request has not been honored. If you are related it would be nice to know because we could share information, but I do not know of any Justice's in our tree. I have been sending messages through email so I thought you might not be getting them. So this time I am sending it on your page. If I am unable to get you to honor my request I will be forced to notify Find A Grave so that it can be honored. I hope it doesn't have to resort to this. If you transfer it your numbers still reflect and the memorial still reflects you as the original creator. The numbers should not be important as the family connection and the memorial being correct and completed. Thanks in advance

Purvis Cemetery
On one of the death certificates for one of your family members (Alice Justice) it indicated she was buried in Purvis Cemetery in Purvis, NC and not Robeson, NC. I am thinking this town was annexed and became part of Robeson. J. R. Stephens & Sons Funeral Home in Lumberton handled the arrangements. Though it's doubtful this funeral home is still in existence, it is very likely that someone at the library or the county Historical and Genealogical Society would be able to give you the history of Purvis Cemetery and point you toward the lost records. The above website will give you the names of existing cemeteries in Purvis and also the location of death records.

I also suggest contacting Linda Williams at:
landdwms@carolina.net

She seems to have done the majority of the tombstone transcriptions for all the cemeteries in Lumberton and may have the information you need at hand or be able to direct you to someone who does.

Good luck!

Shirley Moody
Ernest L. Woods
My name is Shirley Woods Moody. Just curious on what place in your family is Ernest Woods?

Ernest was born to Sarah (Sallie) Jane Austin.
She had three other children, Winnie, Zillah, and Samuel. According to N.C. delayed birth certificates no father was listed for any of the children. Samuel, who was my grandfather, actually has ill listed on his, which means illegitimate. The children were raised outside of Burnsville, Yancey County, NC.

Maybe, some of this is why you've been told not to shake the tree. It gets better. Passed from my father to me (word of mouth), is that a Tom Woods fathered the children. Sallie was supposed to have gone to visit Tom's parents (where I do not know) and discovered that he was a very light skinned black man. I do find this could be feasible as I remember Zillah having darker skin than my grandfather, who had fairer skin and blue eyes. Winnie passed away as a child. And, I can only remember seeing Ernest once, so I have no take on his complexion. I do believe that Samuel was fathered by a different man and his mother just left the last name of Woods, as not to confuse the other children. Just a theory.

Sallie lived to be 101. She is buried at Monte Vista Memorial Park in Johnson City, TN. She did marry in 1917 a Frank Hagar. Her marker shows her name as Sallie Woods Hagar.

Hopefully this information helps and does not hinder you. I have dealth with the mystery of who was Tom Woods for decades. My Dad told me to give up that I would never find him.

Thank you for making the link. That was a difficult link to find, verify and document. I am not related. My several trees on ancestry are public. I read you profile page, and was influenced by the same family stigma's. I was told do not shake the tree, you will not know what may fall out. Well, read my profile if you would like, that is what has fallen out. Open my flag also. Send note if you suspect I may have data you seek. Best fortune on your searches.
Greg Hetzler.

Please look at memorials 90736847 and 110564064. These appear to be duplicates for same person. The Dob/ Dod match and the name which is the same. Thanks, Peggy

Yes, Wayne was my dad, David was my uncle. Fernie of course was my granddaddy. My daddy's and David's ashes are spread/buried on Fernie's grave. My brother's and I decided to give their ashes back to granddaddy, so that's where they both are. Thank for what you do.

And don't forget to move his memorial to Oaklawn. He is definitely there; I have never photographed at York Memorial Park.

I did a memorial on Wm. Lee Bumgardner's first wife Myrtle Jane Adams Bumgardner. Now I just got an edit showing me that hers and William's are both duplicates. Another contributor did memorials on both of them in 2012, and although he had grave photos, he misspelled the names as Bumgarner, which was why we both missed it. I deleted mine on Myrtle. Guess you could ask Find A Grave to merge yours with the original.

RE: John Arthur Hunter
Hello Cheryl,
Thank you so much. I appreciate the transfer. John Hunter is my maternal great-grandfather. His is the first funeral I remember attending as a small child.
I recently found and joined Find-a-Grave and have found several relatives, mostly because so many remained in Edgecombe County.

Thank you again,
Wynette
