Edwin Elmer Leighton #59926663
Thank you for the picture of the gravestone for Edwin Elmer Leighton Memorial #59926663.
I was interested in the inscriptions on the gravestone. There is a man on a horse in front of a mountain, also a barn, windmill, wheel barrow, etc. Are either of these representations of pictures of Edwin and or of his farm? The flag folded in a triangle refers to, I believe, his time as a Marine. Then there are the stirrups. Did Edwin ride a lot hence the stirrups and the picture in the corner?
Do you know anything about this? I would appreciate any response.

Now you will think I'm really nuts! I just deleted his whole memorial by mistake! I've just re-add it and will have to go get the stone etc.

Halla, I download your original, rotated counter clock wise and uploaded it again. I copied your information from the original, but you will need to either download and do what I did and them re-add it to George again. Either way would you delete your original upload, only you can do that by clicking on it and then in the upper right corner you can delete it. If you want to re-upload yourself so your name is on it then please let me know once you've done it and I'll delete my copy of it. Hope this makes some sense to you.

James Thomas Lea
Will you please share with me the name of the source from which you got the Birth Location and Birth Date of James Thomas Lea (#11680133)

His page states that he was born in Washington County, Mississippi in 1822? However, the only records I have found for him on Ancestry.com -- the 1850 Census for James and Margaret Lea, and the 1860 Census for James T. Lea and Margaret Lea -- both show him residing in Washington Parish, Louisiana and being born in Louisiana not Mississippi. He is also buried in Louisiana.

Are you sure he wasn't born in Washington Parish, Louisiana rather than Washington County, Mississippi?

Edward Segee
In St George Rural Cemetery you have entered a grave for an Edward L Segee JR and an Edward Lawrence Segee Sr. They are one and the same. Edward Segee's father was Frank. Both the Sr and Jr have the same dates. Jr is # 133273583. Sr is #133273605.

Thank you for the transfers, Halla. I enjoy filling in blanks and should never be surprised by what I uncover, although I couldn't help shaking my head AND chuckling when I read about the 1844 elopement in Sarah's family. Check it out

RE: Lucy A Hume
Sorry guess I'm a little confused, I don't maintain her site. I didn't do an edit as I don't have any info on her. If you can send me verified info that this Lucy is their daughter I would be more than happy to add her to her parents site.

I actually would love to share any info you have on the Hume Family. I am a true Hume and go back to George Washington Hume.

She was the local midwife and she really was known by "Mud" A very young child named her.
The spelling of Johnson/Johnston varied. I don't mind how you spell it for Elizabeth and William but her child Isabelle spelled it with a "t". Elizabeth and William are my great great grandparents. I have been down to Peters Road Prince Edward Island where they lived and talked to genealogists there.

Cyrus Dart
I noticed that you are a descendant of Cyrus Dart according to the bio posted on Find A Grave. My 3rd gr grandmother was Mariah Daugharty who married Hezekiah Lamb. Have you ever heard her name? Some unsourced trees show her as a daughter of Cyrus Dart and Anne Harris but I can't find any documentation to prove this or why her last name would be different. Have you ever heard these names? Thanks, Janis :)

Shadows on photos
Found a way to avoid some shadows. May sound odd but instead of taking photo from bottom of marker so photo is right side up, take photo from top of marker. It will be upside down, but sometimes the shadow will be gone.
Two ways to prevent photo from being upside down before putting photo on Find A Grave. 1. Take photo with camera upside down or 2 edit photo after downloading it on to computer.

Hope this helps

Moses Ellsworth, Sr.
Hi Halla,

I noticed your question concerning the burial place of Moses and the answer you received.

Moses did not own the land where the Ellsworth Meeting House and Cemetery (years later known as Bethel) was established. His son John and his wife Mary (Richards) Ellsworth owned the land and deeded an acre in February 1802 for the cemetery and a church building. Moses was known as the father of the M.E. church in Harrison County, VA, but he did not help build the church building. He died before the land was donated. It is believed that Moses' son Aaron, who died before Moses wrote his will in 1794, was buried on John and Mary's land. Likewise, it is believed Moses was buried there as well as Godfrey Bumgardner, father-in-law of Moses Jr., Aaron and grandson John Ellsworth, son of Jacob.

Halla, please refer to the bio on memorial for wife of Moses. Believe the later part will tell you more.

Are you a descendant of the Ellsworths? My mother's mother was an Ellsworth and I was very closely associated with her 1st cousin, the late Dr. Willard Ellsworth, who researched the Ellsworth family for many years.

I will be glad to visit with you concerning the Ellsworths through my home email, if you would care to.

Have a good evening. Louise

Ken Childers
RE: Moses Ellsworth
It is speculation...Moses owned the land that the cemetery is situated on and he helped build the church that originally stood there. He was instrumental in the Methodist movement before his death. I know his wife migrated to Ohio after his death with several of his children. He did die in Harrison County, specifically at his home there so my assumption is that he would have been buried in his church cemetery. If anyone has any other information...I'd love to hear it. Maybe track down the resting spot for his remains.

Ken

Infant Tellyer
Thanks for letting me know that my memorial 182771739 is a duplicate of your's 1037077876 but it is not a duplicate. If you will notice the stone has Jerald and Infant Tellier. They are two infants. Your's was born in 1918 and mine in 1920 per the Smith Mountain online list.

Thanks,
Henry
