Sierra View Memorials
I just wanted to thank you for all the memorials you have been making for the departed in the Sierra View Cemetery, and with their headstone photo's. Now that is what find a grave is all about.
I get upset with those who want to make it into,
"find a obituary", when they copy and paste current obit's and the departed aren't even buried yet. So I try to thank those who do the right thing. You even spent all that time walking the rows taking pictures. Great job! Thank you. GMT

Donna,

I posted a lengthy reply, but did not see my reply posted anywhere. I also had trouble creating a forum account. Let me know via another post if you did not see my reply.

Thank you,

Jim

RE: GRAY
Hi Donna!

Thank you for your posting.

I do not know the given name for the middle initial of John S. Gray. John S. Gray (b. 25 Aug 1817) has a younger brother William Gray (b. 17 May 1819); both were born in Maryland. However, 1828 seems a bit late for another brother, but you never know. Certainly, 1823 falls in the expected range for a younger brother. William named his eldest son Joseph (b. 1854) which could have come from the name of a brother. Both John and William were living in Woodbury Township, Bedford County Pennsylvania as young men. I think they probably emigrated from Maryland.

You know their is a Meyer branch to the Gray family that started in Pittsburgh (Lower St. Clair Township), Pennsylvania from the daughter of John William Gray (b. 1843). John W. Gray is the eldest of three sons of John S. Gray and Catherine S. Izer (Izor). William has 6 known children and he named one daughter Araminta (b. 1861).

There is not much further I can add other than this; the parents of John and William are John S. Gray and Ara Minta Simmons. You may want to check for Gray family trees on ancestry.com or ancestryinstitution.com (at a Family History Center near you) to see if there is any new information.

Good luck. Jim Gray

I agree with you! It's so sad that most of the graves I reseach for people have no markers. I can understand if they are over 100 yrs old and made of soft marble, which breaks easily but many are not that old. Happily, sometimes generations younger relatives will go togeher and purchase a marker.

Thank you for the time/effort to attempt to fill my request for Joseph and Mary Melissa Shield's tombstones. I will contact the person who set up the memorials to make a notation so future photo request will not be made.
Thanks much,
L. Gayle Shinn

I PUT IT UP THEN TOOK IT OFF BECAUSE ON THE FRONT OF THE MEMORIAL THE PIC OF THE MARKER GETS BUMPED TO WHERE IT IS NOT SEEN UNLESS YOU CLICK DOWN BELOW. IF THERE IS A WAY YOU CAN ARRANGE THE PICTURES, SO THAT IF I ADD IT , THE MARKER PIC IS SHOWING ON THE FRONT OF THE MEMORIAL. LET ME KNOW, THANKS, SUSAN
