Hopper Family Cemetery
I had planned to take photos as per your request at the Hopper Family Cemetery, but one of the neighbors said it was inside a fence and the property owner had to give me permission and directions to get to the graveyard, but no one was home on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016. Sorry I was unsuccessful. I couldn't even see where the cemetery was located up in the pasture area. It may be a difficult process to get photos. Kind regards, Nancy (NGL)

Sheena are you actively editing the memorials that you manage.
If so, please correct inaccurate link of Lorean to James Robert Ham 30374987. Lorean's correct father is James Robert Ham 69897367. These James's are uncle and nephew to each other. This inaccurate family link, connects Lorean to her cousin instead of her father.
All of the Ham, Bryson and Banfield's that are buried in Calvert City Cemetery are my wife's immediate family. We live in this county.

thanks in advance,
hhs

Hi Sheena,

Well that was yet another completely embarrassing episode, but I made the changes.

Thank you for sending the information for the memorials for Arvile Drain and Marvin Lewis Drain.

Was just making you aware of the different dates. I have seen this many times that dates differ from death certificates and headstone dates.

All changes have been made.

I have made the changes. Her headstone states her date of birth as 1891.

My listing is not the duplicate. If you move your listing to Ridge Park cemetery where she is buried, I will move the headstone photo over to your listing and dont mind removing my listing. She is indeed buried at Ridge Park cemetery in Hill county, Texas next to her husband.

While linking Kate Garrett to her parents I came across your listing for the same person. I hope you will delete the listing #123964505 you made for her. I have her linked to her husband, infant child and now, her parents. I also have a headstone photo posted in her listing. She is buried beside her husband in the Ridgepark cemetery and you have her burial as unknown.

Thank you,

I'm sorry but there wasn't a marker on the grave. I did take a memorial of the grave and loaded it on the memorial.

Gloria Tune
RE: Re: Find A Grave Memorial# 17711478
Yes,

Mamie Tune, wife of Elliott Hopper, was my half g. grand aunt....meaning....she was the daughter of my 2nd g. grandmother Elizabeth Beckum Tune by Elizabeth's second marriage.

Elizabeth's first husband William P. Tune died in 1869 in Tennessee, & his brother James Elihu Tune & family came to Texas circa 1880. Elizabeth & her six children followed a couple of years later & by then James' first wife Mary Dickey Tune had died.

So, James Elihu Tune married his brother William's widow (Elizabeth Ann Beckum Tune) on 17 Aug. 1882 in Ellis County, Texas & they had daughter Mamie born May 8, 1885 who married Elliott Hopper on 22 May 1904 in Ellis County, Texas.

Elizabeth Beckum Tune Tune did not stay married to James & by 1900 she is on the census living with her older daughter & family where Mamie is also listed with her.

James Elihu Tune went on to remarry as well. The story from the Hoppers I know in Alabama say Elizabeth came home one evening with Mamie in tow, told her to stay on the front porch, then returned shortly with a few things, stating they would never return. Nobody knows the particulars, but it must have been not so good, given women had no income in those days to support themselves, probably the reason she took Mamie & herself to lived with the older daughter.

Are we kin?

Re: Find A Grave Memorial# 17711478
Sheena,

Do you have a copy of Elliott's actual death certificate? I know the results at Ancestry & Family Search say 1922, but his gravestone says 1923.

So, without me seeing the actual certificate, I can only put what the gravestone says, as sometimes the results at Ancestry or Family Search have been transcribed incorrectly.

Thanks,
Gloria

Portage Community Historical Society, Inc.
General meeting
Wednesday April 16, 2014, will be held at 7:00 pm at Woodland Park
Public welcome
Our guest speaker will be Brendan Clancy, Portage Twp. Trustee, who will speak on the township cemeteries. He will tell us about the improvements and changes at the James/ Schrock cemetery where some if our earliest settlers are buried.

Brendan Clancy announced at his State of the Township address at the Bonner Senior Center on Feb. 13, 2014: Improvements to James-Schrock Cemetery - A steep incline at the main entrance has prohibited access to many visitors. We are currently under construction of a new entrance into James/Schrock Cemetery. As soon as the weather cooperates we will continue with this project. Also, a new James-Schrock memorial monument will be installed at McCool Cemetery. This monument will list the names of the deceased at James-Schrock Cemetery. A dedication ceremony is being planned.

Please come out and learn what our trustee is doing. Refreshments will be served. For more information check our page at www.facebook.com/pchs88 or call the museum at 219-762-8349.
